She said that "Regarding scholarship aid, I think we are on hold with awarding any more merit scholarships until after the first deposit deadline in April. All admissions applications are reviewed for merit aid, and if you think that you may require any need-based aid (like student loans), be sure that you complete your FAFSA."

Sort of disappointing that later admits won't know about merit aid until after depositing, but it doesn't affect my decision much. Just wanted to share here in case anybody else was wondering.
Just got off the phone with FinAid. UVA is almost certainly finished awarding merit-based aid this cycle. After April 19th, they will take a look at the incoming class and reassess whether or not to award more aid. UVA has only issued merit-based aid after the seat deposit deadline one time in the last 8 years.

Not looking good for folks still awaiting merit-based aid packages. And, since UVA is famous for not negotiating... looks like I'm probably out.
So the additional aid would only be awarded to those who have already deposited or are coming off the waitlist, then?
What he's saying is that there is basically no additional aid at all. They're done unless they really need to raise their medians because too many people above median withdraw. This is unlikely due to last year's debacle, I'm betting UVA has been keeping a particularly tight/conservative handle on their outstanding offers. They can't afford headlines like last year's again.
What happened last year?

I must have mixed up the UVA email leak with another school's scandal. I thought they were the school that severely over-offered and ended up having to bite the bullet when too many people enrolled, but it appears I was mistaken. My bad.

Per Spivey, that is what happened with UVA last year, but I wasn't aware it hit the level of "scandal."

I see the email thing but can't find anything on the financial aid - anyone have a link? Now I'm just curious.

Yeah I conflated that minor error with this story in my head somehow.

Ahh yes! The infamous page not found debacle of '08.

Link has a couple extra characters at the end. Interesting read though, I hadn't heard this before.

I got this as well. I'm assuming it's because we're newly admitted and it hasn't processed yet. Oh and I haven't done anything with Need Access. When's the deadline?

Get hopping, the deadlines' passed and if you're admitted after the deadline you only get so many days after you're accepted to file.

Where does it even say that we have to fill out Need Access? I don't see it anywhere on the UVA Financial Aid page, nor have I received any correspondence that says that I need to complete it.

They're not a needaccess school, i was speaking about finaid in general. For most schools it's a pretty tight timeline if your accepted after the deadline.

I submitted both a need access and FAFSA for them...the priority deadline was Feb 19, but I have no clue how it works for later admits. Also, not sure how old you are Navy, but parental info was required on both forms for me. I don't know their age cut off.

I'm 31 so it doesn't require my parents' info. I sent an email to the financial aid director. If I need to submit it, I'm sure she'll fill me in. It's almost complete.

K, you should probably still submit FAFSA and Need Access for yourself ASAP.

Hi class of 2019,

I currently live at the at the Pavilion at North Grounds.

I'll be moving out this June and I currently have a lease signed for 2016-2017.
Please let me know if anyone wants to take over my lease (starting AUG 1st , 2016); normally, the lease starts around AUG 15th.

My room is a 1 bed with a living room.

I think it's one of the best rooms in the Pavilion; it's the closest room to the law school.

I have an additional desk (LARGE) at the living room that I can leave if you are interested.

Please PM me or email me if you are interested at

Does anyone have an idea of what dress code will be like at ASW this weekend? I didn't see anything on the website.

I talked to a current student and she said business casual.

She indicated that was for the whole thing, but I'm not 100% sure on specifics. I don't think she's seen the calendar of events or anything, I just asked generally

Business Casual throughout is probably the safe bet. I'd rather be the only on in a tie than the only one in sneakers.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
