I don't think there's anything weird about disliking secondhand mattresses. Have you met other people? They are gross, and they spend anywhere from a third to the majority of their lives on their mattresses.jlk411 wrote:I have a pending lease downtown but I am working on my weirdness with used mattresses. And don't kid yourself, we're all gross, but I can deal with my own grossness. But other people? *shudder*

If you don't already have them, get a winter coat, boots, a hat, gloves, some wool socks, and maybe a scarf. Despite the fact that the law school campus is basically a living, breathing advertisement for Canada Goose, you don't need to break the bank to stay warm in Ithaca. Anything halfway decent will do.jlk411 wrote:ok sorry I am really chatty, but I am from CA and zero bit prepared for winters in upstate new York. advice? I'm from CA. Get a good winter parka (mine cost only a little more than $100, but because it has down feathers, it's super warm). Also helps to have boots for when there's a lot of snow on the ground. Hat/beanie can be useful if you don't have a hood. Gloves if you anticipate carrying your books to and from the school a lot, personally I usually put my books in my backpack and keep my hands in my pockets. Wore a scarf once in a while but just zipping up all the way worked. I found that wearing earmuffs was very, very helpful; $15 on Amazon.jlk411 wrote:ok sorry I am really chatty, but I am from CA and zero bit prepared for winters in upstate new York. advice? Essentially, just layer up properly and you'll be fine.

Typically, when does it start to get really cold? Should I pack winter stuff when I move up in Augusr or can I wait and bring most of it back with me in January?tyrant_flycatcher wrote:If you don't already have them, get a winter coat, boots, a hat, gloves, some wool socks, and maybe a scarf. Pack it now. January and February are the worst, but it can certainly go below freezing in November and December.Bleeeh wrote:Typically, when does it start to get really cold? Should I pack winter stuff when I move up in Augusr or can I wait and bring most of it back with me in January?

How reliable is the TCAT system? I plan on walking to school but in the winter when it isn't bearable to walk and it's snowing, does TCAT still run?

From what I've heard, it's pretty reliable, and I've never heard of it just not running. Maybe in an extreme blizzard? This is Ithaca. They know how to handle a bit of snow.lawschooli wrote:How reliable is the TCAT system? Is anyone else still waiting for the official loan amount determination? (ie. The official COA less any scholarships = the amount of loans you can borrow from the federal gov't. But in an official printout from Cornell)

As far as I know, everyone is. I got the NetID email today, though, so I think the process is moving along.counttoten wrote:Is anyone else still waiting for the official loan amount determination? This might be immature to some but is there a ratemyprofessor specifically for law schools? It helped me so much in undergrad and yes I know all the professors basically do the same thing but some are really crazy lol

Re: Cornell Law Class of 2019
Hey guys. Question. I was accepted Monday after meeting Dean Ingram. I have a full-ride offer from Minnesota (only there for leverage) and a a little bit of money from UCLA, but they're giving me a little bit of money every week or so. Is this enough leverage to be able to negotiate with them? I of course will, I just want to know the strength of my offers. I love cornell, but the price point is very high. I should note that I have not recieved my offer yet, and probably will recieve it early next week. Also, should I wait and see their offer before I tell them my other offers? And lastly, I'm on many waitlists. Is it worth putting effort into getting off these waitlists to try and negotiate further? (Wash U, Vandy, Georgetown, etc.) I think if I showed interest I would get accepted. I applied to most of these schools in March because I got worried I hadn't gotten accepted anywhere yet.

CampusBolt was a thing for a second last year, but yeah, you won't have any say in who your professors are first semester.niiiightnurse wrote:This might be immature to some but is there a ratemyprofessor specifically for law schools? I'd just go with word of mouth.

Does anyone remember seeing a laptop stipend to add to your loan amount? I swear this was a thing?

I'm waiting on a lease agreement for a place, but internet is not included in the rent. Any recommendations as to internet providers?

I'm waiting for this as well, having completed the promissory notes and entrance counseling on the federal loans website. Maybe it'll come after the second deposit?

Did Cornell send you any instructions on how to go about actually securing your federal loans? I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. Promissory note...???Dante181 wrote:counttoten wrote:Is anyone else still waiting for the official loan amount determination? (ie. Live in 312 for sure. I'm an undergrad senior right now and live here, it's way nicer than those other 2 options. It's a mix of undergrads and grads, but most the undergrads here are quiet and keep to themselves (mostly Asian international students tbh). My friends and I absolutely wreck the place every weekend but unless you get unlucky you probably won't hear a peep from neighbors. Also the place is nice (for Ithaca) and management is prompt about fixing stuff and responding to concerns. It's also 5 minute walk from the law school and you don't have to deal with any slope at all since you live on college. And the liquor store's right downstairs next to the side door.lawschooli wrote:Does anyone know which of 140 Seneca Way, CTT, or 312 College Ave is the best place to live? I don't need the apartment to be furnished so that's not too much of a decisive factor!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
