Yep. I even followed up with an email, but it's because of that stipulation in your merit-based award that you don't qualify for need grants.

Did they provide any reason why they turned down your need-based app?

No specifics. My only guess can be I don't have any undergrad debt aka they can tell my parents paid for my undergrad

So I got merit aid in an amount large enough to keep me out of the running for need based aid, but would still leave me in a substantial amount of debt. I filled out the form as, regardless, I'll need a budget increase for my loans, and I'm planning to talk to financial aid at ASW about it. I haven't been rejected yet.

Hi all! Congrats on admission to um law, and I hope you all come! I am a 3L who is very happy with my decision academically, socially, and career-wise, and I am totally happy to solicit questions from people via pm or on this board if the questions might apply to a lot of people.

I think I have a really good sense of the law firm/ public interest/ clerkship split at Michigan and can speak to how people ended up where they wanted to be.

I was immediately turned down for need-based aid, even though I have substantial undergrad debt (approx. $120k) and neither my parents nor I make real money. I received (what I believe is) the smallest amount of merit-based aid - $10,000 per year. I'm sure there are people who are more in need of financial aid than I am, but I thought that I would be considered for some need-based aid. I'm not sure I can justify going to Michigan when Duke and UVA gave me more than twice as much scholly moneys

I was admitted on 2/26 and still nothing, so I'm essentially giving up hope for merit aid. I did call the admissions office and ask last Friday and she said that the financial aid office was pretty backed up so I should give them another week before I call and ask. But I've seen people on here get their merit aid offers just a few days after acceptance so I'm thinking I just didn't get any. Hopefully it turns out differently for you!

oh hi. we're admit day twins. i didn't receive any need-based aid till yesterday, which was just outside the "within two weeks" window promised, so i figured there might be some sort of backup... trying to be optimistic, but yeah... i'm with you. fingers crossed for both of us.

I'm just assuming since it's taking so long they are sending a Darrow by carrier pigeon. The poor thing is going to be so tired when it arrives in Seattle!

For people who go to the preview weekend this week:

Does the hotel assignment email that they keep referring to have any hotel reservation code or anything? I just received one that simply said I will be staying at Sheraton. Am I going just to check in with my name and say I'm here for Mich Law Preview? Or am I actually missing an email from them?

I haven't received anything along the lines of a hotel reservation code. Assuming that checking in with my name will be sufficient.
