My mailing address is very far south! Very surprised I'm the first one reporting since I submitted on the deadline and I'm decently far from NYC.TheKisSquared wrote:+1benwyatt wrote:What part of the country are you in?tflan19 wrote:Apparently a letter from Columbia Financial Aid is sitting at my house.. but my parents just left it there without opening it. They might also know you have a slim chance of choosing them over YLS anyway. If you are interested in CLS you should try negotiating (using the Yale acceptance, obviously)rska884 wrote:Oof. That does not inspire confidence for me, especially if you got in at Yale...tflan19 wrote:Okay, it's 50k total over three years. That barely offsets the difference in COL from New Haven to NYC. I know this wasn't directed at me, but thanks for the pick-me-up... CLS is the best school I got into, which they know, so hopefully this person's experience isn't relevant for me...TheKisSquared wrote:They might also know you have a slim chance of choosing them over YLS anyway. Re: Columbia Law Class of 2019
I'm still deciding between YLS and HLS but this knocks CLS out of the running. And this is combo need/merit. I'm guessing mine is mostly merit though because no other schools have given me any need aid (even when I get $0 merit) and my EFC is something absurd. a little peeved because I'm LSAT>>>>75 and GPA>50 and people with lower scores have hamiltons but oh well!ih8makingscreennames wrote:Wait so that means you're going to YLS? Oh but there's is combo need/merit right?tflan19 wrote:Okay, it's 50k total over three years. That barely offsets the difference in COL from New Haven to NYC. Got my financial aid award in the mail today (I'm in NY), postmarked 4/1. 60K over 3 years.
Oh, and officially checking in here!

Hi all,
Did anyone have success negotiating using other school's scholarships?

People just started getting non-named packages yesterday - I'm not sure there will be very many data points to work with yet.cam89 wrote:Hi all,

(also everyone please keep reporting scholarship receipt. I was a little heartbroken when there was nothing in my mailbox yesterday but I'm hoping my mail is just slow in a large non-NYC metro area.... )

Just got a message that they needed more info. Meanwhile, the lady looked through the file while I was there and failed to tell me this.

so if they roll out via snail mail, I'm assuming they won't send a letter just to say "we're not offering you anything," right? how do we find out if we get $0

Your award letter will probably just designate all loans.mabes wrote:so if they roll out via snail mail, I'm assuming they won't send a letter just to say "we're not offering you anything," right? how do we find out if we get $0

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2019
Somehow this increased the hype. My SO gets home before me and checks mail and I've given him explicit instructions to open all envelopes from Columbia and text me immediately.vorely wrote:YepTheKisSquared wrote:Did the award letters people got this week indicate loan amounts?gamerish wrote:Your award letter will probably just designate all loans.mabes wrote:so if they roll out via snail mail, I'm assuming they won't send a letter just to say "we're not offering you anything," right? how do we find out if we get $0

I just looked again and not yet (at least not one you can search for). It looks like the one for last year's class was created about one year ago though, so possibly soon!CerealMilk wrote:Checking In! Also, anyone know if there is a Columbia Law 2019 Facebook group? I'm in NYC and haven't heard anything re: aid. Oh my. This makes me nervous.
Congrats to those of you who received aid that tips the school in your favor!

I just called the financial aid office due to a deadline I've received from another school. Apparently some files still haven't been reviewed for completeness, so I think some folks might be waiting a little while....

Columbia just confirmed my address change and now I'm worried they mailed it to my old address...

very nice to hear that someone w/o a named scholly got Butler-esque money.jflaw wrote:Checking in, was really pumped to get my financial aid letter yesterday, 90k, it definitely made Columbia look like its my number one option (WL at Harvard, didn't bother wasting money on a Yale app
