Pages of despair and disappointment.

You, unfortunately, called it...
I've been mentally preparing myself with every report of scholarship mailings. There's only so much hope you can have that yours was lost in the mail.

UVA does fill a number of seats in its class with folks paying sticker. For some, it will be a really good choice. They've managed to keep their #s and placement good over the past few years, so I guess they know what's best.

I'm not sure how soon I'll withdraw, but I don't believe I'll be sticking around much longer. Hopefully my seat can go to someone for whom paying sticker at UVA makes more sense.
Yup, and it's more than just a number. It's the majority--57% of students at UVA are paying sticker per the school's 509 disclosure. 57%!

So SIS is updated today with the total financial aid status. Merit scholarships have been going out on a rolling basis. Many here were hoping that not all merit scholarships have been released yet and would be updated today along with loans info. Many were very disappointed that they were offered $0 in scholarships. The SIS system should have everything (including scholarships) but for the majority of people it is only loans since we did not receive scholarships.

That's what I mean - nobody has gotten anything but loans today, so no need-based scholarships or unexpected merit.

Right, exactly. If you have not heard by now, it's very unlikely there will be additional awards.

I also received only loans (assumed this would be the case) and fully understand that for some people debt is a deal breaker, but one thing that may be worth considering for people who have offers elsewhere is the difference in cost of living and tuition between schools. If you have $20k/year from a private school in a major city, it might not actually be such an extreme difference from "sticker" at UVA if it's really where you want to go given that it's a state school and Charlottesville is significantly cheaper than NYC, DC, etc. If you have a scholarship at somewhere like Michigan (top school, state school, lower cost of living, etc.), I can definitely see the quick decision, but be sure to consider everything if you aren't getting the scholarship results you were hoping for.

So should I go to ASW to get the stipend? I wonder how depressing it will be seeing it in person, and not being able to afford going there.
I would not put yourself through that if you know you can't go. I visited and it was great, and it made me want to go even more, which makes this suck more lol. Don't do that to yourself!

That's what my gut reaction is too. Sigh!!!! Anyone want a room through Airbnb? I called in sick to work, and I am crying alone at a Thai buffet. Lol

Have you tried calling financial aid yet to discuss your situation? It sounds highly unique and I don't think that Need Access/FAFSA would be able to capture your situation fully. Maybe speak with someone there before cancelling your flight. They say on the financial aid website that students with children can request budget increases. http://www.law.virginia.edu/html/prospe ... uition.htm

I'm in the boat of "wow it's really gonna suck to go and know I can't afford it." Fortunately, I have friends there, so I'm honestly going just as much to see them as I am to visit UVA. I'm so sorry though, this does suck.

I know this seems like the end of the world, but it is no reason to ruin a perfectly good buffet! Eat a whole bunch of food and then go home and relax. I'm sending all my good vibrations your way and I hope you get some better news elsewhere!

Is anyone on this thread still considering going at sticker? Long time lurker here with no undergrad debt and finding this decision difficult.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
