I am definitely a member of multiple groups, as are my friends on and off TLS. I think it's totally acceptable.

Open to all admitted students! Join away. I saw questions in some that were clearly intended to help make a decision.
Ohhh that's excellent intel, thanks friend!

Subbing US History today and the curriculum refers to Desert Storm as the "Great Persian Gulf War". As someone whose degree is in international security studies, this is literally the first and only time I've ever seen this. Is this a new high school history thing? It's making me irrationally angry.

I thought Desert Storm was the offensive and Persian Gulf was the general conflict but I don't know shit about it admittedly.

No, you're right, but nobody would ever affix "Great" to the front of it. It's a really dumb way to differentiate the first and second gulf wars. Most people don't even put "Persian" in front of it.

No worries. High school here starts at 715 so I've been up for a while.

The only thing great about that war is that it has given me a phenomenal trivia bonus question for when teams are tied, I just tell them that the first person to show me the correct answer to the following question wins.

"Spell the name of the Commander-in-Chief of coalition forces during the first Gulf War."

I don't think so, but if I was that'd be rad because I could brag about my daughter going to Harvard Law and then all of the other dads would be super jealous. And I would also make Legally Blonde jokes all of the time.

Also, I can't remember who was asking, but I finished Snow Crash and it was pretty good. I'd say it was definitely more focused than Seveneves, but the ideas were a little less interesting. Still a good read, would recommend for anyone wanting to read some solid scifi with a slight philosophical bent.
