Does anyone else feel really happy with their scholarship, but still overwhelmed by the remaining cost of attendance for Cornell? It's the only thing keeping me from putting down my deposit at the moment.

*raises hand* Yup, me. But I have no better choices (and thus no more leverage to negotiate with), so I deposited. Hopefully I'll see you there! +1 though, even if I had a full tuition scholarship, debt financing cost of living would still scare me. See you in the fallcounttoten wrote:*raises hand* Yup, me. They say they never really wanted me anyway and lock the doors to Ithaca forever? Idk I'm just going to send them an email today. How do you word that, like "Hey thank you for this but could I have a bit more?"Trippel wrote:Definitely negotiate! Re: Cornell Law Class of 2019
I was unable to make it to an ASW, but I'm throwing caution to the wind and enrolling anyway. If any current Cornell Law students are browsing this thread, I have some questions for you that I can't seem to find answers for anywhere else!
- Are there lockers available? I read in an older thread that they were, but is it still the case?
- Is there a lunch room/cafeteria in Myron Taylor Hall? Does it have a fridge and/or microwave?
- If said fridge does exist, how prevalent is food-stealing / does it have secured compartments to prevent stealing?
- What's the free food situation? A couple of other schools I was able to visit claim to have almost daily noon-time events that provide free food for attendees--is Cornell similar?
- How about free coffee? Again, some other schools offer free coffee in the mornings.

Thanks!

- Yes, everyone gets one book locker and one coat locker. The coat locker is shared with another student, but nobody uses the coat lockers anyway. In 2L and 3L, a lot of people will leave their stuff in journal / club offices.
- There is a cafeteria called Fork and Gavel downstairs. There is also a Fork and Gavel Express in the Commons, and next to that is a kitchen with two common refrigerators and a few microwaves.
- It happens. And when it does, someone usually sends an e-mail to the listserv yelling at people for stealing food. One of these e-mails made Above the Law this past year. Assuming there's an e-mail every time someone steals food, it probably only happens once a month. Make sure you label your stuff. Also, again, some of the club and journal offices will have fridges in 2L/3L.
- We have free coffee and other breakfast stuff on Wednesdays, called the Weekly Perk. Otherwise, no, unless some event or Lexis table offers it. Lots of other free food and alcohol though at daily events, weekly bar tabs, and monthly mixers.

Yes.
Is there a lunch room/cafeteria in Myron Taylor Hall? Does it have a fridge and/or microwave?
Yes, yes and yes.

Food stealing is rare, but see http://abovethelaw.com/2015/09/youll-ne ... aw-school/. I've never worried about food stealing.
What's the free food situation? A couple of other schools I was able to visit claim to have almost daily noon-time events that provide free food for attendees--is Cornell similar?
Yes, free food is usually available several times a week at events. Includes Thai, chipotle, pizza, brown-bag lunches, etc.
How about free coffee? Again, some other schools offer free coffee in the mornings.
Free coffee and donuts/bagels every Wednesday morning.
Yes.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one wondering about this. I've l lived on ~$20k/yr or less for the last decade mostly by knowing where to find free meals. Will continue the tradition for a while longer.HALT_REPTAR wrote: Yeah thanks for the answers everyone!

Has anyone been offered need based aid and would mind sharing how much? Also, is it unheard of to try to get more $ for need based aid?

It's my understanding that the scholarship offer is a combination of merit and need-based aid, but I could be wrong. It never hurts to ask for more scholarship $$ if they haven't explicitly stated that their last offer is their final offer.Delacroix7 wrote:Has anyone been offered need based aid and would mind sharing how much? Yeah you're not going to know how much of it was need-based.
