I also only got loans. I've gotten scholarship offers at peer schools and schools that have a higher rank too. But I'm really disappointed because if UVA had given me a competitive scholarship I would have went there in a heartbeat. Oh well - I guess in a few weeks I'll see if they're willing to negotiate.

Can confirm. I tried to use a higher offer from a peer school and received a polite email declining to increase my award.HangingAround wrote:5) UVA Law typically doesn’t negotiate scholarships offers. This is a change from the recent past, when the scholarship committee was under different leadership. I'm with urbanist. Will be withdrawing and never looking back. Really liked UVA, but now I'm just offended.

If I haven't sent in my FAFSA yet, would I still get an aid notice including loans? Could that be why I don't have anything uploaded yet?

edited for clarity: yes (for aid notice). no (for including loans + second question). They are uploading packages whether they include fed loans or not. You will at least be able to see if you have a scholarship offer. Your package will be updated once your Fafsa is submitted(received) and can be processed by the school. Either way, you should see SOMETHING today:jewkidontheblock wrote:If I haven't sent in my FAFSA yet, would I still get an aid notice including loans? email wrote:If you are expecting to receive Federal Loans and the information does not appear as part of your package, it is because we have not yet received your FAFSA information. Once we receive this information, we will update your package to reflect your loan eligibility. If you have not yet completed the FAFSA form, you can do so at https://fafsa.ed.gov/. If you HAVE completed your FAFSA, and were not offered student loans, please let us know.

Let's see how this works out for them as their admits with better offers flee. It's very confusing to me that they have made this decision. They seem to feel they can build a class and protect their numbers without negotiating scholarships.cc1012 wrote:Can confirm. Re: UVA Law Class of 2019
UVA does fill a number of seats in its class with folks paying sticker. For some, it will be a really good choice. They've managed to keep their #s and placement good over the past few years, so I guess they know what's best.jewkidontheblock wrote:I guess the only benefit would be to open up spots off the waitlist for the poor souls who will be paying sticker priceJames.K.Polk wrote:Is it bad to withdraw today? I'm not sure how soon I'll withdraw, but I don't believe I'll be sticking around much longer. Hopefully my seat can go to someone for whom paying sticker at UVA makes more sense.

I don't think this is new to this cycle, so it seems to be working fine. Except for the 25th percentile falling to 163.Tls2016 wrote:Let's see how this works out for them as their admits with better offers flee. It's very confusing to me that they have made this decision. If they don't negotiate I will have to withdraw. Have over 100k at a peer school, cannot justify UVA even though it was by far my top choice.

Withdraw when you think it's right. If you know you're going to 100% withdraw, why not just do it? There is an obvious difference between saying "Go to hell for giving me only loans" and saying "thank you for the offer of admission, but I have decided to pursue a different choice besides UVA"

No way! Going to a T20 law school and making sure grades stay up should be perfectly fine for the honors program! (At least, that's what I'm gathering). Look at the list of schools were participants in the Honors Program attended: https://www.justice.gov/legal-careers/law-schools even someone from Golden Gate University got accepted to the program. You should be fine!Nolachicken wrote:If you 100% plan on going public interest, should you ever pay sticker? I have several full rides from t20 schools and all of my regional schools.
