Also only offered loans.. My UVA hype has pretty much been destroyed. I am still going to ASW though since I paid for a hotel already and I want to gorge myself on food at UVA's expense.

I also only got loans. I've gotten scholarship offers at peer schools and schools that have a higher rank too. But I'm really disappointed because if UVA had given me a competitive scholarship I would have went there in a heartbeat. Oh well - I guess in a few weeks I'll see if they're willing to negotiate.

5) UVA Law typically doesn’t negotiate scholarships offers. This is a change from the recent past, when the scholarship committee was under different leadership. If you do have offers from peer schools you would like the scholarship committee to see, please send them directly to Dean Faulk — but please be aware your current award is unlikely to change.

In case anyone missed it on FB, and is hopeful about leveraging their peer school offers.

Can confirm. I tried to use a higher offer from a peer school and received a polite email declining to increase my award.

edited for clarity: yes (for aid notice). no (for including loans + second question). They are uploading packages whether they include fed loans or not. You will at least be able to see if you have a scholarship offer. Your package will be updated once your Fafsa is submitted(received) and can be processed by the school. Either way, you should see SOMETHING today:

If you are expecting to receive Federal Loans and the information does not appear as part of your package, it is because we have not yet received your FAFSA information. Once we receive this information, we will update your package to reflect your loan eligibility. If you have not yet completed the FAFSA form, you can do so at https://fafsa.ed.gov/. If you HAVE completed your FAFSA, and were not offered student loans, please let us know.

I guess the only benefit would be to open up spots off the waitlist for the poor souls who will be paying sticker price

Let's see how this works out for them as their admits with better offers flee. It's very confusing to me that they have made this decision. They seem to feel they can build a class and protect their numbers without negotiating scholarships.

UVA does fill a number of seats in its class with folks paying sticker. For some, it will be a really good choice. They've managed to keep their #s and placement good over the past few years, so I guess they know what's best.

I'm not sure how soon I'll withdraw, but I don't believe I'll be sticking around much longer. Hopefully my seat can go to someone for whom paying sticker at UVA makes more sense.

I don't think this is new to this cycle, so it seems to be working fine. Except for the 25th percentile falling to 163.

Withdraw when you think it's right. If you know you're going to 100% withdraw, why not just do it? There is an obvious difference between saying "Go to hell for giving me only loans" and saying "thank you for the offer of admission, but I have decided to pursue a different choice besides UVA"

If you 100% plan on going public interest, should you ever pay sticker? I have several full rides from t20 schools and all of my regional schools. I guess my dreams of clerking and DOJ honors programs are done. Sigh.

No way! Going to a T20 law school and making sure grades stay up should be perfectly fine for the honors program! (At least, that's what I'm gathering). Look at the list of schools were participants in the Honors Program attended: https://www.justice.gov/legal-careers/law-schools even someone from Golden Gate University got accepted to the program. You should be fine!
