In Gmail, right-click, choose "Move to Tab" -> "Social" or "Promotions" (whichever you never look at lol); in Yahoo Mail , right-click, "This is Spam".jumbo2016 wrote:Whenever I get an email that isn't from Michigan about money a little piece of me dies.
And it's never from Michigan. It's been TTTT law school emails all day, most with no discernible unsubscribe button.
Don't know about other email clients, maybe other TLSers can help with that.

I've never figured out how to do it on Android either but never really bothered since I just leave them in my inbox until I get to a computer.jumbo2016 wrote:Thanks! Anyone have any insight on Munger versus The Lawyer's Club? Lawyer's Club seems like where I would want to be just given the atmosphere, but Munger looks pretty incredible as well.

Munger does look pretty nice, but with a 12-month lease (vs LC 9-month), the price point isn't that much different once you add in food. You can obviously save a little bit over the LC. You just have to live with 5-6 roommates. It's all preference really. If Munger offered 9-month leases it would be a no-brainer. I'm pretty sure, too, that you can't sublet Munger in the summer.KiltedKicker wrote:Anyone have any insight on Munger versus The Lawyer's Club? For on-campus housing, you've basically got three options: the Lawyers Club, Munger Residences, and Northwood Apartments.
The LC is the most convenient for classes, since it's right on the Law Quad. If you don't care to cook, this is a great option, since you can eat at the dining hall. It has also been recently renovated, so the rooms are nice. And as mentioned, it's nice to not have to worry about subletting. The drawbacks are that the rooms are on the smaller end with only a full-size bed, you don't have a kitchen, and you have to live around other law students (don't underestimate how vexing this can be around exam time).
The Munger Residences are new and have proper apartments with a full kitchen. You also get a queen-size bed. They are only a couple minutes away by foot from the law school. And you don't have to be around law students all the time. The lease terms are for 12 months, but you should check with them, because they mention on their site that they might be able to accommodate residents with internships and so forth. A potential drawback of both the LC and Munger is that they are on the southern edge of Central Campus, among a bunch of undergraduates. It can get loud on evenings and weekends (especially football Saturdays), with fraternity houses and undergrad residences next door.
Northwood Apartments are as close as you get to real apartments on campus. You can even rent a washer/dryer to put in them. They are a bit older. They are also located on North Campus, which means you will have a bit of a commute to the law school. There are free university buses that could take you there, so transportation isn't necessarily a concern but is something of a hassle. If you prefer solitude and a quieter atmosphere with woods and deer aplenty, Northwood is an excellent option.
Ann Arbor also has plentiful and relatively inexpensive off-campus housing options. Generally, the closer you get to campus, the more expensive it becomes. Closer to campus also means a higher student population, which can translate to more noise and parties. The quality of housing throughout the city can also be variable, but that's really situation-specific.

This is unbelievably helpful, thank you. I actually just submitted an app to LC to hold a spot, but Munger seems like it might be the best option. I still haven't committed to UM to I'm going to wait a little bit to see how things play out before I do anything further.Aeon wrote:For on-campus housing, you've basically got three options: the Lawyers Club, Munger Residences, and Northwood Apartments.

My pleasure! If you'll be going to a Preview Weekend, that'd be a good opportunity to check out the housing options in person.KiltedKicker wrote:This is unbelievably helpful, thank you. I should add that I'm not sure how high the demand might be for the Munger Residences and Northwood, since they are open to all graduate students. At least with the LC, applications are restricted to law students. I don't recall it being terribly difficult to get LC housing for those who wanted it.

I was planning on living further away, though Northwood looks nice (and cheap)... Can you live with a SO who is a non-student?Aeon wrote:My pleasure! I think so, but I'm not sure. If I recall, most of the people with significant others or families ended up living off-campus.James.K.Polk wrote:I was planning on living further away, though Northwood looks nice (and cheap)... Re: Michigan Law School C/O 2019
Any more info on Lawyers Club vs Munger Graduate Residences. Im leaning towards Munger cuz its cheaper and kitchen > $500 per month meal plan. Also an in-building gym is the perfect way to force my lazy ass to work out during the school year.
However, ive seen the "half of the incoming class stays in Lawyers club" thing. So im wondering if ill miss out on a lot of social/general benefits of living with most of the other law students.

You can be as socially involved as you like, regardless of where you live. Ann Arbor is a manageable town, and it's easy to get together. The 1L sections tend to be close and often become the primary social circles for people, at least during the first year. The other main social circles are the various student organizations, so it's a good idea to become involved with at least a couple that suit your interests.jnwa wrote:However, ive seen the "half of the incoming class stays in Lawyers club" thing. Now, if you don't live in the Lawyers Club, chances are that you won't be able to walk down the hall and see if others want to go for drinks on a whim. But then, you could do the same after class or arrange something by Facebook or whatever. In my experience, it was never really a problem to attend or organize social get-togethers.

One more thing I ought to add is that the Phid House (http://www.phidhouse.org) is another housing option for law students. It's technically a fraternity, though in practice it operates as a sort of co-op. It's less than a block from the law school and very cheap (around $450 per month, inclusive of utilities). There are 25 law students who live there, and each year they take in somewhere between 5 and 10 1Ls.

Recently graduated summer starter here...wanted to offer a sublet opportunity for any incoming summer starters since the lawyers club leases don't start until the fall!
The apartment is a 7 minute walk from law school, and you would have your own bedroom and bathroom. The apartment is brand new and furnished, with an in-unit washer/dryer and central AC!!!!! You would be living with 5 current 3Ls who will be studying for the bar and will be a great source of law school/Ann Arbor guidance.
Welcome to the Michigan Law community! PM me for details. For those of you doing summer start, get ready for a GREAT experience

If you are worried about scholarships, email Financial Aid and ask!
I was admitted in mid-November and had received no scholarship information. I sent an email to Financial Aid asking if this meant that I would not be receiving any money.
A couple hours later, I received an email back apologizing for their mistake and offering a $120k Dean's Scholarship.

Hi all!
Long time lurker here coming out of the woods to ask opinions. I was reading the UMich c/o 2018 forum and noticed that a lot of people were really concerned with Michigan's jobs stats released last March, to the extent that some people withdrew immediately and some appeared to eat their deposits and attend elsewhere or reapply next cycle.
I haven't seen as much concern on this thread or the Michigan law applicants thread (where I'll be cross-posting this question), but I'm curious if you all share this concern or think it's unfounded.
