on the bright side you only have a little bit longer till you no longer have to deal with him.

I don't think I can beat Lemon but yesterday I filled up my gas tank and suddenly gas started spewing out of the bottom of my car.
For those following along at home this is right after (I literally picked it up Friday) I spent >$1000 getting it to pass the stupid emissions test.
Took it in this morning and my gas tank has rusted through. He sent me pics.
WHEEEE
Also guys guys guys I'm 3 posts away from 500.

That. Sucks. Cars are the worst. I really hope I get to live somewhere that I don't need one.
Do you have a plan for the big 500? I'm excited. Too excited. It might be weird.

Doing four days in Michigan for the asw has totally destroyed my will to work. Four months seems way too long.

Ugh same. It's one of the big draws of NYC for school.... I technically live in a place where I don't need the car now, but it's just too useful and fully paid off and the insurance is paid for 4 more months and I couldn't even sell it until it's fixed anyway.
also OMG JUST ONE AWAY NOW. I really have to make it count. I'm looking for the perfect gif as we type.

#1 reason I'm most excited to get the hell out of LA is that I will no longer need to drive EVERYWHERE. My car is in that fun little spot where the check engine light is on every other day, but no mechanic can find a problem (2009 VW Jetta, ~70k miles). It's absurd.
I'm so jealous of the trains and subways and functional public transport ya'll have on the East Coast, and so ready to call it my own.

Be careful what you wish for guys. I've lived in the San Francisco area for 13 years now where supposedly public transit is fantastic and I got fed up and bought a car six years ago, never looked back. Sure, cars are costly and you have to keep up on the maintenance but it's worth it not to have to add 20 minutes of waiting time each way any time I want to go somewhere, and to cut the actual travel time in half (unless there's traffic - but that's what Waze is for!) Dunno about NYC but around here the transit systems are decaying faster than anyone has the money to fix them, and there are way more people riding than they have capacity to carry - i.e. at least 15% of the time the bus you're waiting for won't stop because there's no room on board. Not to mention the fares have more than doubled in the last five years.

Houston is so big that you can barely use Uber. I work evenings sometimes, and if I hit the traffic wrong it will take me 90 minutes to get somewhere that is on the same side of town as me. Literally anywhere else would be less stressful than commuting here, and if I take public transport I can be productive instead of singing the entire Hamilton soundtrack for the 150th time.

Yeah, you can't sing on the bus or people will mistake you for one of the many crack addicts with whom you'll be sharing the transit system.

That's the key for me; public transit may take a bit longer (or not, in places like Minneapolis where the bus barrels down the shoulder of the freeway while everyone else is at a dead stop in rush hour traffic) but at as soon as I get on that bus or train, getting from point A to point B stops being my problem. I can read a book, close my eyes, look at the scenery, and chill. If someone goes 10 miles under the speed limit right in front of the bus, I don't notice or care. I'm willing to wait a little bit longer for the transportation circus to be someone else's problem.

Personally, I use my commuting time (2-3 hours a day) to listen to German Learning CDs. It's mildly productive, until I have to cut myself off in mid-"practice sentence" because some jackass is
attempting to murder me crossing over the double yellow carpool lane to cut me off while going half my speed. Guess I gotta learn how to cuss in German so that even that will be somewhat useful.

Yea. I guess I should check with HR (closer to leave date), but I'll have like 3 weeks of vacation...So if I wanted to take an excessively extended break before LS, I could skip out 3 weeks early. But, I'll have two or three weeks before LS starts anyways so I'll probably just take the cash.

I was learning German since the girl I was dating's whole family spoke it, but now that we broke up I don't know if I care enough about to language itself to keep learning it.
That being said, once in college I had a German friend teach me an insult to shout at a German basketball player who started for Nebraska. I waited until he drained a three pointer, which quieted the arena, at which point I shouted "I ate out (with) your mother last night," and he turned back to the student section and looked like he was going to murder someone. Easily the highlight of my career as a spectator, he didn't make another shot the rest of the night.

That's exactly how I feel. Bus in my city is pretty reliable, and it has relieved me of a LOT of traffic stress.
