I personally thought going to the ASP was more worthwhile than an individual visit would've been. I talked to a professor for a solid chunk of time and doubt I would've been able to talk to that specific professor (in the program I'm interested in) on an individual visit. I agree that a lot of it was a sales pitch and it started really fucking early, but I learned some new things and got some new perspectives. I'd go ASP.The_Lorax wrote:Question for any of you who attended the March ASW: I'm planning on visiting soon, is it worth waiting to attend the April ASW or would am I okay trying to just schedule an individual visit next week?

Did anyone who's already filled out FAFSA receive their financial aid award in the mail this week? An email earlier in the week said they'd be mailed this week.

Visiting for the April ASP. I believe all the free hotel rooms are booked already. Anyone have recommendations for cheap AirBnB's somewhere near the school?

I used Urban Nashville Vacation Rentals and thought they were decent -- definitely more affordable than the hotels in the area. I found them through AirBnB, but it looks like you can just book directly through them. Feel free to PM me if you'd like more info.mornincounselor wrote:Visiting for the April ASP. Got mine today, I think. Just loans. Kind of weird considering I'm 25, unemployed, and my parents aren't contributing any money. Oh well, time to renegotiate scholarship dollas. The Abyss wrote:Did anyone who's already filled out FAFSA receive their financial aid award in the mail this week? I think need based was figured into the merit scholarships. Got my award letter today too.BirdLawExpert wrote:Got mine today, I think. Just loans. Anyone know the RSVP deadline for April ASP?
ETA: Also, checking in. Also is anyone here crazy enough to attempt a UG RA position during 1L?

Has anyone started to look into apartments for next year yet, or is this still early in the game...

Yeah... I think I'm underestimating the amount of work that would require. Free rent+ stipend sounds awesome though. The Abyss wrote:I thought about it and then realized it was going to be a very bad idea.jumbocolumbo wrote:Anyone know the RSVP deadline for April ASP?

You can be a head resident, which supervises RAs, I believe.LetsGoNow wrote:Where do you think I can find out more about such positions? The Abyss wrote:I thought about it and then realized it was going to be a very bad idea.jumbocolumbo wrote:Anyone know the RSVP deadline for April ASP?

But as someone who was an RA in UG, seems like a bad idea. It's a lot more work than you'd think and involves losing quite a bit of sleep on a regular basis.

Has anyone scheduled a visit with admissions on an "off" (non ASP) day, and if so, what did it entail and how long did you spend on campus? I can't make the April ASP but would like to visit. Basically trying to see if I can thoroughly tour the school in the morning/early afternoon and catch a 7 PM flight home. Thanks in advance!

Has anyone received information from Vandy about how to submit your deposit? I'm ready to commit but haven't found any information on how to send my deposit. It seems kind of strange to me so I'm guessing I must be missing something.

I did!! It was absolutely amazing. I had a tour in the early afternoon, followed by a 1.5 hour class, then a q&a with a student and a meeting with an admissions counselor. I then walked the whole regular campus and hit up the book store. Def worth it.

Re: Vanderbilt Law Class of 2019
Has anyone had success negotiating with Vandy not based on need? I would love to keep Vandy in the running, but UT's offer leaves me with lower net COA than Vandy.
I've already asked for more need-based aid given my family contribution will be $0 and I don't have savings, but received a no. I didn't include competing offers in that email since their initial email indicates they don't negotiate with other offers.

I went up early for ASD and looked at several places. Ended up putting a deposit on a place before leaving (several people told me that March was when people started to get serious about apartments, so I didn't want to wait and leave it up to chance). The Abyss wrote:Pretty much have a place locked up for the fall.bab93 wrote:Has anyone started to look into apartments for next year yet, or is this still early in the game...

That sounds awesome. Were you able to get reimbursed for the visit?AMajorChord wrote:daisrt wrote:Has anyone scheduled a visit with admissions on an "off" (non ASP) day, and if so, what did it entail and how long did you spend on campus? Yep! All but $17 dollars because my flight was redonk. The visit sold me over GULC and Cornell for sure.LetsGoNow wrote:That sounds awesome. +1...im way behind the 8 ball I guess then. End of the semester is turning out to be crazy, I won't have time to get to Nashville and actually look until May.janderson821 wrote:Scalvert wrote:I went up early for ASD and looked at several places.
