Re: UC Berkeley (Boalt Hall) Law Class of 2019
$83,000 granted in unsubsidized loans, 0 in gift aid. I am an extremely low-income single parent with full custody, no parental income needed due to my age.Really shocked. Hope some gift aid comes in. At ASW, I felt like the financial aid reps were saying that gift aid could come in later, not that it would come in later. I thought the reps were saying that only if someone declined aid and went to another school would additional funds open up...at least that was my understanding...

Similar situation here. Did most of the folks who have received an offer already submit a matching scholarship? Really hoping they're not done with offers, but I recently spoke with a rep and they mentioned that offers will be made at the end of the month/early April.Jordan Catalano wrote:$83,000 granted in unsubsidized loans, 0 in gift aid. Others with the $0 gift aid, if you haven't submitted a match, are you waiting a little longer to see if aid shows up next week or submitting matching offer? Just got a substantial offer, about 65% tuition, yesterday from a peer school they match with. LSN projected I only had an 18% shot at even getting into Berkeley, so I am thinking that there is no way Berk would approach that number in an initial offer anyway. Debating the merits of submitting the match today or waiting for an initial from them, if the $0 isn't their offer.

Did you hear by email?YCDAACH wrote:I just got 22k/yr of gift aid from Boalt. Still haven't heard back about aid from any of my other schools. I'm hoping I hear something soon so I can submit a matching app. I'm happy it's not nothing, but I still don't know if it's worth it.

That was my plan--to wait and see what my aid was before submitting any other offers--but now I am concerned that they might be running through the money they have to allocate pretty fast and I might be SOL if I don't submit something soon...seagan823 wrote:Others with the $0 gift aid, if you haven't submitted a match, are you waiting a little longer to see if aid shows up next week or submitting matching offer?

I'm going to call admissions and ask if the $0 is their initial offer when they open today. I will report back on what I learn. I have a feeling I'm going to be pulling the trigger on the match.Jordan Catalano wrote:That was my plan--to wait and see what my aid was before submitting any other offers--but now I am concerned that they might be running through the money they have to allocate pretty fast and I might be SOL if I don't submit something soon...seagan823 wrote:Others with the $0 gift aid, if you haven't submitted a match, are you waiting a little longer to see if aid shows up next week or submitting matching offer?

I applied for Matching with an offer of $120k back in January. Berkeley came back with $36k/year. It appeared last night on the My Finances tab. I'm hoping I can get some need-based aid too, but it does say "Packaged" so this is probably it.

Was waiting for Berkeley's initial offer to submit a match, and I'm showing $0 as well. Not sure if this is their offer or not.

The checklist page on the admitted students page says this, which makes me hopeful:
The scholarship committee is currently determining scholarship awards and will notify recipients directly by e-mail. Once a determination is made, the scholarship award will be added to the recipient’s financial aid offer.

Just as an anecdote, LSN gave me ~10% shot at getting into Berkeley, so I wasn't expecting any merit aid. However, they did approve my matching scholarship.seagan823 wrote:Others with the $0 gift aid, if you haven't submitted a match, are you waiting a little longer to see if aid shows up next week or submitting matching offer? And I haven't received an email about it yet either - just the update on my finances tab.

Re: UC Berkeley (Boalt Hall) Law Class of 2019
Basically to reiterate what they said at ASW - they will notify you directly about merit grants and matching scholarships. For need and matching you will hear explicitly a Y/N. So try to relax! (I know it's stressful)
ETA: Two other things - The admitted student checklist does say that the MyFinances tab should include need-based grants. Also, they typically give recipients 2 weeks to accept their offers, and then offer money to others should that person decline.

According to their academic calendar it is the Cesar Chavez holiday. So it looks like we'll have to wait until next week for answers.

For whatever reason, I waited until Monday to submit my matching scholarship form (75k from Michigan). I didn't get accepted until late February, FWIW. I've got my fingers crossed they'll match or come close to that. If they do, I'll see you all this fall!

I submitted my matching scholarship from Duke about 3 weeks ago, but I haven't heard back from Berkeley yet. I don't have any scholarship info yet. Have you heard back already?lolRCscrewyou wrote:Has anyone submitted a matching scholarship from Duke? If so, how did that fair out? You can PM me if you dont want to post reply
