I started this cycle with no Michigan hype and no thought I would actually end up there. They have grown on me more and more, and now I am pretty stoked that this is looking like where I'll be come August. Nice ole $$$ didn't hurt, Thanks Michigan, but even besides that Michigan is looking really good to me.

Number 3. It used to be YHM back in the day.

I really hope UMich keeps class sizes low this year and doesn't try to inflate it again (assuming last year's #s were intentional and not a result of a mass exodus due to the ranking drop) because despite the rise in rankings, there's no evidence that their actual employment #s have improved. If the class size this year suddenly balloons back up to 300+ I'm going to be disappointed.

Highly doubt that, considering they intentionally made it smaller: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/ ... r-students

Class size will probably be closer to 300 this year. Little disappointing, as 260 something sounded great.

Visited mich and was kind of disappointed by how unhelpful admissions/finaid were :/ I had tons of questions but it felt like they were just trying to get me to leave so they could get back to whatever. And at other schools when I've sat in on classes, they have a student from that class take you to it and tell you what's going on in it etc. At mich they were like "oh we forgot you had a class visit, you should be able to find the room and chances are the Prof will be OK with you being there." When a visit is scheduled online weeks in advance and confirmed I feel like "chances are" is not great :/
I want to love mich so bad but this visit killed a lot of my hype.

Not to defend them, but I think this is maybe due to it being a week before preview and apparently (I talked to a Mich student) there have been some professors giving midterms recently--and they just had winter recess last week. It's not an excuse, but I think that's at least part of it.

UVA just gave me a map of the school and said go find the class lol. I mean they were really nice, but no special escort to the class or introduction.

Weird, UVA set me up with tons of current students, lunch, and a class. I think it helps if you let your admissions contact know you're coming in advance.

Sorry you didn't enjoy your Michigan visit - just remind yourself that the admissions office doesn't run the school and you won't have to deal with them a whole lot once your deposit is in.

I had the exact same experience when I went to visit UT.

I don't think your bad visit was a school specific phenomenon. They probably just weren't as prepared for visiting students because of the time of year with both ASWs around the corner.

That's why I'm making sure I go to the ASW and I'm gonna be meeting up with the L3 that I met during the phonathon. Also the yoga sounds fun.

I talked to a Michigan student, and they said that the trend of having a smaller class size was expected to continue...

I hope that's true, but I do wonder how much a regular student would know about what's going on in the admission office. I wonder if they would even entertain answering our question if we asked during ASW.

On another note, got my merit award today (just 3 days after acceptance!) and it was quite generous for my stats. Looks like the rise in rankings didn't make them stingier as some people had feared!

I would love a class of 267 again, but 300ish isn't that different. Still smaller than the class sizes we are seeing in current employment numbers.

Congrats! But I'm taking this as a sign that I'm not getting any merit aid considering I got accepted almost two weeks ago and haven't heard anything. Oh well.

What is everyone planning on doing during the winter break?
I'm trying to figure out what I'll do during that time if they do close the LC.

Yeah. If the LC is closed then I'm trying to figure out where I'll live during that time.

Thanks all, it definitely could have been the day and I'm going to try not to rule it out based on one bad visit. I've been looking at apartments so if you have questions about a certain one feel free to ask! As a warning, I feel like Woodbury gardens (my former top choice) is super sleazy; they refuse to give you a quote on rent but require a $1000 nonrefundable holding fee. They did say that their prices are at least 200 more than they are listed online so that's sketchy already :/
