My last day of work is now set for April 30th, but then I have to move from Tokyo to the US and visit multiple family members all over the country.

So I have nearly two weeks of vacation left and I am now afraid that I will not be getting a payout for my remaining vacation so I am taking two days vacation on Tuesday and Wednesday.

I will also take take a day or two next week.

My plan is to record the lesson on a tape recorder, type out notes on a laptop of yet unknown make, and do tables and diagrams by hand. All of those will then be distilled into an outline later.

That seems like maybe a bit much/also a poor use of time to listen to the lecture again

Same, but however you learn best, I guess. I'm probably gonna go for the "hand-write, then transcribe directly after class" approach. Still haven't decided if I'll highlight in my law books though. Decisions, decisions.

I live in the same household as a surface pro and have used it occasionally. Feel free to ask me questions (or PM me). It's a great device and the only downside really is the price. If portability/weight is important (which heh law school) the cost seems worth it. Works as well as more traditional laptops I've used/bought in the last two years.

Pros: Can carry large books without destroying back, am too old to care whether I look "cool" anyway
Cons: What if I am literally the only person in my entire class who has one and I look like a tool

Side note: I'm thinking something cute/grownup lady like, not a backpack with wheels:

If you want to take care of your back and think this is the way to do it, don't let the haters get you down. That said, i'd wait and see what the locker situation at your school is/how much time you'd prefer to spend working at school vs home/etc. If you do more work at school, you might not need to take your books home as often or as in as high a quantity. Then you could probably get by with a regular backpack.

+1 and it depends on how/if you'd be commuting. I think that would be more trouble than it's worth on public transportation.

If you plan on driving to campus and parking, you could treat your car as a locker.

I believe you. But I guess my question is less "will I look fashionable" because it's been a solid ten years since I asked myself that question, and more "will people assume I'm a total douche/self-important jackass/smelly weirdo if I have one"

I will be at SMU, was hoping for UT but they decided to have an odd cycle and SMU offered a really nice scholarship. With wanting to work in Dallas I figured it's not a bad deal. Now the long wait until I leave work haha
