Yeah, that's my main issue. Do I get a Windows laptop to match the editing machine I just built, or do I get a MacBook Pro to match my iPod, iPhone, and iPad?TheKisSquared wrote:Everyone uses macbooks, but I can't bring myself to. Either a surface pro (a friend has one he is selling) or some Acer laptop I pick up from microcenter.BirdLawExpert wrote:I'm just sitting here waiting for the IRS to give me my tax refund so I can start shopping for a law school laptop.
Anybody know what they're going to take next year? Kind of tempted by Surface Book at the moment, but I hear that pretty much everyone just uses macbook pros.
I have a great desktop I built myself so no need for a ton of power.

I've definitely been an apple person for a long time but I'm really tempted by the Surface Book too. It is more expensive though and I don't know anyone who has one.BirdLawExpert wrote:I'm just sitting here waiting for the IRS to give me my tax refund so I can start shopping for a law school laptop.

I live in the same household as a surface pro and have used it occasionally. Feel free to ask me questions (or PM me). It's a great device and the only downside really is the price. If portability/weight is important (which heh law school) the cost seems worth it. Works as well as more traditional laptops I've used/bought in the last two years.janderson821 wrote:I've definitely been an apple person for a long time but I'm really tempted by the Surface Book too. As to Birdlaw's question above, I actually think (depending on which school you're going to, because of software) you want the most portable, cheapest thing. I actually think a chromebook (again depending on if you need in-classroom software) would be a good bet. I'm just lucky enough to have a surface pro for very cheap available to me right now that I'm debating on jumping on.

My MacBook Pro is 5 years old and still works like a champ! I will be getting the new one just before starting law school in the fall too and I would definitely recommend getting the Mac instead of the surfaceBirdLawExpert wrote:I'm just sitting here waiting for the IRS to give me my tax refund so I can start shopping for a law school laptop.

Getting home from an ASW (and just vacation) last night at 1:30 am, 4 straight Ubers cancelled on me so I had to pay $50 to get home with a cab. It's like a $15 Uber ride.
Roigh start to the week.

yeah, I've got a decently recent built desktop thats pretty solid but got a Macbook thats only like 2 years old. While Im not debating getting anything new I'm just really hoping having a desktop to use at home and a Macbook for class doesnt cause any annoyances

It really shouldn't, I would just use a windows-friendly cloud system to backup/sync work (Google Drive or Dropbox being my systems of choice)Smallville wrote:yeah, I've got a decently recent built desktop thats pretty solid but got a Macbook thats only like 2 years old. I'm a strong advocate of my Dell XPS 13. Best computer I've ever used, and I really like Windows 10.

Ah, awesome, I'm glad I'm not the only one. My plan is to take my notes by hand and then type them up later so I can put them into outlines.OLitch wrote:Me too!schocolate wrote:I... I was planning on taking notes by hand.

I hate writing things by hand. I have awful handwriting so it's a roll of the dice on whether or not I'll be able to read it later.schocolate wrote:I... I was planning on taking notes by hand.

My plan is to record the lesson on a tape recorder, type out notes on a laptop of yet unknown make, and do tables and diagrams by hand. All of those will then be distilled into an outline later.

Some schools have in-class exams that either require special software or at least require you to submit a PDF.... right?schocolate wrote:I... I was planning on taking notes by hand.

Re: Senioritis / Quitting-my-job-soon-iorits
yeah, a lot of schools I believe have you get a program that totally blocks everything other than itself for you to type and submit. However some also allow you to write in bluebooks if you prefer or cant on the computer for whatever reason (though not recommended as its not as clean and slower most of the time) though idk what schools do or dont. But you could still write notes by hand and take your exams on a laptopTheKisSquared wrote:Some schools have in-class exams that either require special software or at least require you to submit a PDF.... right?schocolate wrote:I...
