I wore jeans and a sweater (I'm a girl) and felt really comfortableBudfox55 wrote:Casual is fine.Delacroix7 wrote:hey guys! maybe it's better posting this here (posted this previously on the cornell admissions forum, haha) but what was the dress code/atmosphere like at the ASW the first time around? and do you guys know when housing results will be out? thank you!

Re: Cornell Law Class of 2019
Anyone else looking for housing, I found a nice place on the northwest edge of campus, about 1 mile from the law school that has free parking AND allows pets. Cliffside Terrace Apartments. The manager has been easy and professional to deal with, and the prices are fair. Hoping it's not a "too good to be true" situation come August, but I'll have to wait and see.

Re: Cornell Law Class of 2019
Hey everyone,
I'd like to link up with some fellow male students who are looking for housing this coming year. I'll be at ASD this Friday, and I'll be visiting a few nice looking rentals that work out to between $500 and $750 per month/person. Please PM and provide some short and honest background regarding the typical things one would like to know about a potential roommate. As for myself, I'm very clean and organized, and I also do woodworking, interior restoration/renovation, and interior design in my free time, which I would think may be helpful when it comes to getting a nice rental and keeping it nice...
Thanks!

Got the call from Cornell today, super excited, but any chances of getting a subsidy for this weekend? Or is ASD even really necessary? I'm coming from the south and I want to put off the cold for as long as I can.

Congrats! If you call them directly TODAY, you might be able to get the subsidy. I'm coming from the West, and even with the subsidy the travel expenses are prohibitive, so I'm coming this fall site-unseen, and I know exactly what you mean about putting off the cold.niiiightnurse wrote:Got the call from Cornell today, super excited, but any chances of getting a subsidy for this weekend? If you can't make it this weekend and you do end up matriculating here, keep in touch and we can commiserate about the climate together come November.

Has anyone done the one on one financial aid interview, and if so, what does that entail? How should I prepare?

After reading the email again I see that it's called a financial aid meeting, not interview. I'm still curious as to what exactly this is, they didn't attach any info to the email.HALT_REPTAR wrote:Has anyone done the one on one financial aid interview, and if so, what does that entail? Anyone else getting an outdated dialogue for the seat deposit form? Mine is showing the 2015 deadlines...

Yeah, I think they just forgot to update it, but I put down my deposit a week ago and received a confirmation email just a few days ago, so it seems to be working.counttoten wrote:Anyone else getting an outdated dialogue for the seat deposit form? Mine is showing the 2015 deadlines...

I'm quite sure that the meeting is to answer any questions that you might have for them. This is in no way an interview to receive anything of any sort. Seems to be solely an informative meeting.HALT_REPTAR wrote:After reading the email again I see that it's called a financial aid meeting, not interview. Was anyone able to negotiate a higher merit award after an initial round and receiving the "this is our final offer' e-mail? Also, would anyone be willing to share their stats/$ via PM? I'm at both 75ths and feel like I should be getting more than I'm receiving atm. Hope everyone else enjoys ASD!

I believe you can request an extension on the deadline.Dante181 wrote:I'm still waiting to hear back from one school, but am pretty eager to deposit at Cornell. Does anyone know their policy with this sort of situation? I don't want to deposit if it means I have to withdraw that other application, since a favorable response could give me more scholarship negotiating power. But if I don't have to withdraw, I want to get that Cornell ball rolling.

Anyone else kinda bummed that Cornell's numbers slipped this year while almost every other T14 school rose? It's a small class so a lot of it's probably just margin of error, but I actually thought that Cornell's #s would increase this year considering the big law hiring boom.
Also, since Hughes is down for renovation is everyone just renting off-campus?

What do you mean their numbers slipped? For employment?miku015 wrote:Anyone else kinda bummed that Cornell's numbers slipped this year while almost every other T14 school rose? Perhaps part of it is due to self selection? Maybe more kids were PI focused that year.Lavitz wrote:Referring to this: http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... 1&t=262376hopefuljumbo23 wrote:What do you mean their numbers slipped? Re: Cornell Law Class of 2019
Possible. Self-selection into desirable PI jobs certainly exist. Off the top pf my head, I know at least 2 of them are ADAs in NYC, 2 of them are doing human rights stuff in the Middle East, and 1 who turned down a DC biglaw offer to do PI. But it's hard to say whether there was more PI self-selection than any other year, and 7% is like 14 people, so I imagine at least a couple more people wanted biglaw and struck out than usual. Either way, given that self-selection was definitely a thing, anyone who wants biglaw should still have around an 80% chance of getting it. And that's just considering the c/o 2015. No idea how we or the c/o 2017 compare, but feeling has been that hiring has been improving since then.hopefuljumbo23 wrote:Perhaps part of it is due to self selection? No idea what brought about the change in numbers for class of 2015, but it seems that the classes of 2016 and 2017 have absolutely killed it in terms of BL.

Re: Cornell Law Class of 2019
Welp, got completely shut down in my request for a second reconsideration (think it might have even been an automated response with how quick the reply was). Not sure if Cornell/freezing in Ithaca is worth 150k...Anyone know if the first deposit is binding/requires us to withdraw other offers?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
