ASP was pretty great, definitely completely sold me on the school...but it was a terribly long day, especially after the night before haha

One thing that really stuck out to me was how down to earth and normal every student was, not once did I feel out of place or awkward both days.

Also, Vandy loves to drink. First thing I heard from a student was work hard, play hard. They definitely live up to the mantra!

I was surprised by how unlike Vandy undergrads the law students (admitted and current) seemed. Maybe I shouldn't have been expected southern/fratty people in law school generally, but I thought Vandy might be a place that attracted those types. Still not sold on Nashville as a place to live, but the school seemed great.

I just tried to get as close to campus/midtown as I could. I'm sure that Generally probably has a good idea about where to avoid in town, though.
If you can stay in music row, hillsboro, or midtown area its super easy to just walk to Vandy. Not sure what the pickings are like on airbnb. Don't stay in east nash I would say. It's an annoying commute in my opinion.

Edit: here is a handy guide to where all neighborhoods are if someone mentions one to you.

Where is good to live 1L year? Ideally I'd like to have access to the Warner parks because I like trail running, do any 1Ls live in the neighborhoods nearest the park?
I'm an accepted student and a Nashville resident. I live in Germantown and love it. Vandy is about 25 minutes away by bicycle and I am near the Cumberland River Greenway. Germantown is also home to the city's best restaurants and an emerging bar scene that is removed from the hipster pomp of East Nasty and the undergraduate shenanigans and congestion of Hillsborough Village and parts of Midtown.

Here are some notes about Nashville neighborhoods from a resident since 2006:
  • (1) The Gulch: Near Downtown and Music Row... extremely expensive, but close to everything
    (2) Downtown: Too expensive and too many tourists, but badass apartments and you're always close to Robert's Western World where you can grab a fried bologna sandwich and a tall boy for $5
    (3) East Nashville: Bicycle friendly, very young population, many restaurants and bars to choose from, becoming increasingly expensive, lots of beards and flannel shirts
    (4) Germantown: Excellent restaurants, coffee shops, and a growing bar scene, Downtown is a 20-30 walk, houses are super cute, Farmer's Market is walking distance
    (5) Midtown: Congested, overpriced, and too many chain restaurants imo, but close to Vandy and many students live here
    (6) Music Row: Awesome choice if you can snag the right house or apartment... close to Vandy
    (7) Hillsborough Village: Closest neighborhood to Vandy, very expensive, congested, mediocre food and bars, lots of bros
    (8) Green Hills: Big houses, families, Whole Foods... nuff said
    (9) Nashville West: Target, strip malls... nah
You forgot the best area, 12 South!
12 South is amazing. Don't know why I left it out.

+1, we had someone hanging out with us at the GULC Open House who brought their parents, and it was just awkward. Very glad it wasn't necessary to worry about that this time.

I think Vandy and UT are in a dead heat for me right now, but if Georgetown surprises me with a serious scholarship offer that could change. This is a considerably more difficult choice to make than I thought it would be when I got my initial acceptances back.

Vandy and UT were in a dead heat for me as well. I'd be happy to talk to you (or anyone else) about the decision via pm.

Glad to see that all of you enjoyed the ASD!

Checking in to see how you all felt about the ASP - getting to Nashville on a Friday is a bit of a hassle with my work schedule, but if it was great I'd definitely rather do that than an individual visit.

It was definitely worth it, I thought. I met some really nice people, including one TLSer (maybe more than one)! I was impressed by the professors and the other admitted students. I liked the city as well. I was sold :)

^ retweet. ASP made the difference for me, I met a bunch of fellow admitted students (including at least two TLSers) that were awesome, talked to a professor that made me feel really confident in their enviro program, and just adored Nashville. So yeah, 10/10 would recommend.

So I just receive an email saying I was placed on the waitlist even though I was accepted a few months ago and have been give a good scholarship offer. I called to see what the deal was and they said they would just have to call me back. Did this happen to anyone else??

It did not, but I'm willing to bet that there's no way they rescind your admission or scholarship offer. That's a really, really bad look for them.

That'd be terrible. I've gotten a mistake email from a school I was accepted to but it was for a Ph.D. Program and I applied to their JD program. Simple mixup. It's concerning but I doubt they would renege on an acceptance and scholarship that was made in good faith, especially if you haven't done anything to deserve it. ATL would likely put you on the front cover if this happened to you for real and isn't fixed.

Yeah they ended up emailing me back and saying it was a mistake and the scholarship offer still stands. That was terrifying though.

I'm a bit late to the game, but I've heard a couple success stories. Has anyone really had any luck negotiating with Vandy? If so, please PM me.

Question for any of you who attended the March ASW: I'm planning on visiting soon, is it worth waiting to attend the April ASW or would am I okay trying to just schedule an individual visit next week?

Wait for the ASW. The March event was very helpful in helping me make a decision.

I'll chime in to provide a different perspective. While I thought the March ASP was great, I personally would've preferred an individual visit. I found spending most of the day in the same room a little exhausting, and the format itself is inherently sales pitch-y. At ASP, you'll get the opportunity to talk with a really impressive group of professors, get a good overview of the school and have the chance to meet your potential future classmates, but if you're someone who really just wants the "day in the life" experience, you might prefer the solo visit. Ultimately, I'm no less sold on Vandy, but I found the experience overwhelming.

FWIW, major introvert, so grains of salt all around.

For those who asked for scholarship reconsideration, how long did it take to hear back?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
