I'm actually really looking forward to the LC because I'm from a community college and commuter uni so I never really got the whole dorm life experience.basedvulpes wrote:Anyone have an knowledge of more non-traditional housing options? Anyone know if Michigan offers any significant need based aid? I read on their website that they will have a Need based aid form to fill out in early March.

Usually need aid is very low. Also as soon as you start working during your summer they immediately subtract your need aid dollar per dollar you earn.Dexter97 wrote:Anyone know if Michigan offers any significant need based aid? Most of the downtown apartments have a heavy student (predominantly undergrad) presence. As already mentioned, Woodbury Gardens was a popular choice among my classmates who had SOs or families. There are plenty of other cheap housing options further away from campus. Some are close to bus stops, and Michigan students can ride the city buses for free. Northwood Apartments are another, university-run option.basedvulpes wrote:Anyone have an knowledge of more non-traditional housing options? Yet another possibility is to live even farther out and drive in: Ann Arbor is an exurb of the Motor City, after all. There are commuter lots where you can park and take a university bus to campus. There are also separate university parking lots for commuting graduate students (requiring a yellow permit) within easy walking distance of the law school.

BTW (this is thus unconfirmed):
Keep the Hype Train rolling.
Source: http://www.usnews.com/_preview-00000153 ... a457b40000Law: The top schools were unchanged in the law rankings, with Yale Law School at No. 1. Harvard Law School and Stanford Law School tied for No. 2, just as they did last year. However, Duke University and the University of Michigan—Ann Arbor traded places, with Michigan moving up to a tie for No. 8 and Duke dropping to No. 11.
Further down the list, Boston University moved up six spots, from a tie at No. 26 to a tie at No. 20.
Urban schools remained at the top of the part-time law program rankings. Georgetown University in the District of Columbia ranked No. 1. New York's Fordham University was No. 2, and the District's George Washington University was third.
The University of Houston jumped into the top 10, where it tied with three other schools for No. 6. Last year, it was tied for No. 11. Marquette University fell to No. 42 after tying for No. 17 in last year's rankings.

Hopefully the class size won't be too much bigger because of this.

I'm sure Michigan was privy to the change, or at least knew they would trend upwards. I also think it'll have less of an impact outside TLS, though I could be wrong.Li'l Sebastian wrote:Sameherecomesthesun wrote:So like...I don't *care* about the rankings per se, but it definitely gave me some joy

That said, if they're interested in keeping the class small, they might be getting tighter with scholarship here in the near future...

Re: Michigan Law School C/O 2019
I think the jump resulted from their smaller class size and more aggressive scholarships for talent. It seems like Michigan has been offering more aid than any of their peers (could be anecdotal). Michigan used to be number 4 back in the day right? They have an incredibly large number of current alumni in partnership positions right now so they might be getting a lot of money from them giving back too.

I would suspect it'll have an even bigger impact outside of TLS. I think TLS users are more informed than th average applicant about how little the year to year rankings actually matter.James.K.Polk wrote: I'm sure Michigan was privy to the change, or at least knew they would trend upwards. Current UM UG. I've never eaten there, but I know someone who worked there recently who said that it was significantly better than dorm food. Sorry I can't be more helpful.Li'l Sebastian wrote:I would like an answer to this question as well!DownUnder wrote:Checking in! Accepted back in January, probably going to Michigan at this point.

3L who lived in LC the first year it was renovated. If you have a chance, definitely live in the LC. I miss having balanced (and usually more than simply edible) meals made for me everyday, and the location is great academically and socially. Would recommend joining b school gym for all gym rats; it is about two minutes away and less packed. Also, hail harbaugh for T8.
