I signed my lease without a credit check or references.

I've signed a lease before going through a credit check multiple times (not in Ithaca, elsewhere).

Thank you! Maybe landlords in Northern California are just a lot more thorough and picky. Maybe they can afford to be. I'm blown away by how quickly the housing process goes here.

Couldn't find any info on this, but does Cornell reduce scholarships if a student gets a paid SA position? I'd think not, but I haven't seen anything on it.

That sounds overly harsh. Or at least I'm not aware of this as a practice.

Absolutely not.

Only ones that I'm aware of that do this are HYS because all of their aid is need-based and is recalculated each year. Plus technically NYU in the sense that their initial scholarship offer may state that they'll give you a set amount of extra money if you do PI instead of a firm job in your 2L summer.

Hi Cornell Law Class of 2019,

Current 1L here. Out of curiosity would anyone be interested in graduate school housing near the law school? A few friends and I currently live at 13 South Avenue and would love to have more law school students in this house. It's about a stone's throw away from the actual school which is convenient. The price is pretty cheap (around $950 a month) compared to other places like CTT and you only need to pay for the months that you are there (so basically 9 months as opposed to the full 12).

Caveats: 13 South is a converted fraternity house. Former DKE and for some reason is male only. Right now it's about half law school kids and half engineering. Also, they clean the house every morning, which is nice.

If anyone here is interested, let me know!

Nice house. Do you still have the volleyball sand pit?

Check in!
Really like Cornell but they just declined my scholarship reconsideration request. Oh well, let's see if we can further negotiate in ASW.

My request was also declined. Do you think it's possible to negotiate further, or is this really final?

We can meet with the financial aid people face to face in the ASW. I'll see what happens. Ppl often told me to be persistent.

I was able to get a bump, but I had a larger offer form another t14.

Has anyone been able to get an increase without a larger offer from another school?

My request for more aid was declined too, but to be fair I didn't really have a great bargaining chip. Happy enough with my scholarship as it is, but I might retake in June and see if I can get an increase after that.

Does Cornell have a history of increasing scholarships with an improved June score?

I don't know the numbers on it but it seems to be a possibility based on conversations I had with a couple current students. Definitely not a guarantee, but I'm thinking that if there's a possibility it might be worth the effort. Plus I'm kind of bitter about misreading one of the logic games rules back in October.

Went to an alumni + admitted students event last night and had a lot of fun. Everyone was super friendly, and it was nice to talk to different alumni.

A bunch of ppl told me it was useless using non-T14 as bargaining chip.

That's pretty much what I figured. I don't even know what I would write in the letter. I'm pretty happy with the offer I have so I'm not to worried about it :)

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
