It doesn't really matter to me. I've done some really shitty jobs in my career and I am relatively sure that any lawyering practice area will be more prestigious than the majority of those jobs.

I am actually very interested in ADR right now.

I read the blog the school sent out an email about today, and I gotta say there was part of that which basically insinuated "hey man, you're a new lawyer, accept any garbage that big law job throws at you, they pay you $100k and they own you" that I wasn't too keen on. Maybe that's the downfall of my age, and maybe I'll have to learn to live with it, but I was kind of put off by it. In any event, like most new lawyers, I'm sure I'll suck it up and drive on.

Yea, that's why some people choose not to go to biglaw. It can be a churn and burn type environment.

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. It doesn't matter. Professors don't respect you more or less based on what you wear. I wear basketball shorts, sneakers, and t-shirts every day. Most people started out fairly formal and began dressing in casual clothes after the first month. I showed up in casual clothes on the first day. Some people always dress fairly formal (like business casual) but in the end, it won't make any sort of difference.

Just be logical.(i.e. if you have an event or a guest speaker and you want to make a good impression, dress more formally...otherwise, wear what you want)

Thanks for the reply! I'll probably start in shorts and a polo and see how it goes from there. I'd consider wearing khakis, but for the first couple months of the semester Gainesville is really hot and miserable.

Do you wear nice sneakers, or just worn casual sneakers?
Normal sneakers. The shoes I wear pretty much anywhere.

Not that I think I'll auto-qualify for biglaw or anything, but I'm not sure I'll be shooting for that out of graduation, for this reason. I mean, I might be able to convince my wife that sort of thing is ok for a year or two, but eventually, she's gonna want her husband back.

I don't mind the high hour count or whatever, it's the 'nothing comes before us' attitude. I've dealt with a LOT of that, and have had about a belly full of it. So maybe I skip BigLaw.

I don't blame you. Plenty of great jobs out there in the law world. The only nerve-wracking thing is that biglaw tends to hire earlier so the people who get the biglaw SA jobs and the offers after SA will get their jobs early on which can make other people nervous that they haven't gotten anything. But it's not that big of a deal. If you network, interview well, and get solid to good grades, you'll have no issues finding something.

I'm open as well, right now I'm in love with the idea of being in the court room civil or criminal.

I missed the part where we picked the primary female. Is that a popular acclaim thing, or a trial-by-combat thing?

Poor science people need some basic training on what passes for normal in the wider world  (thanks Sonar for the Sketchers warning!). I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe…

Trial-by-combat, but no one opposed me so I won by default. Pretty sure Sonar will vouch for me though if you wanna put it to a vote.
Nope. Voting is not allowed here. It is only Trial by Combat. Although I do vouch for the lostweasley. She is the biggest participant ITT. But I now need to know her Melee combat skillz.

Who am I gonna combat?! Lol. I think the only other girl ITT is usually Kat & she isn't a regular poster.
Not a regular poster, but I am a regular reader :)

To the other post- I'm getting excited too. If anyone is looking for a law school prep book to read, I'm currently reading 1L of a Ride and am enjoying it.

I too am reading 1L of a ride, I have enjoyed it so far as well. I've read several reviews of that and Law School Confidential and the host of other books, this one seems to be the most even keel as far as reviews go.

Me too! It's both scary and exciting to be going back to school, even though I haven't been out of school for too long. A good future poll topic (maybe it's already been done) might be "when did you decide to go to law school", with options like "birth", "high school", "college", and "after graduation".

I've also started 1L of a Ride, I'll post later when I've finished it and can review the whole thing.

I actually haven't done that one yet! I'll make it the next one :D
Another good one might be "how many members of your family are lawyers?", but I'll leave the art of polling to the thread's "primary female" . I'd like to know how many of my classmates were destined to be lawyers from birth :).

I love the phrase "primary female" because it's one of those things that nobody actually says, so when you google it you get things like this: http://link.springer.com/article/10.100 ... 649#page-1

"Trios were comprised of a male and a primary female, which may have been a pair in previous years, and a secondary female bonded to the male."

Also, when you google "tls primary female" we're the second and third hits, so you're on your way to becoming the google-selected primary female for the entire forum.

UF Law is ranked #30 in employment outcomes in ATL rankings that came out today. Things are looking up!

That's an interesting read. All the lawyers I talk to around here pretty well indicate that UF law grads don't have a really tough time finding a job. They all say you gotta hustle, but it's very likely you'll get something.

Yeah an improvement over last year. I wish the clerkship and big law placement numbers were higher. I'm hopefully they will be by 2019.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
