Is it too late to get a travel stipend?

I remember doing the final steps in early July last year - do the FASFA, promissory notes, etc now, but financial aid will send out a big email in June with more info / a form where you fill-in the exact dollar amountSkaEnthusiast wrote:+1Dante181 wrote:Does anyone have experience with the process of taking out federal loans? Re: the travel stipend - I have no idea if there was a due date, but everyone is pretty easy-going in the admissions / financial aid office. Never hurts to call and ask

If you've filed a FAFSA, they'll offer you a full financial aid package after you deposit which will include your scholly + federal loans (assuming eligibility) for you to accept/adjust/decline.SkaEnthusiast wrote:+1Dante181 wrote:Does anyone have experience with the process of taking out federal loans? What should I do if I don't have a physical copy of my offers to scan and send in for negotiation? Should I just print the email with the offer and scan that and send it in?

Re: Cornell Law Class of 2019
Hi everyone! I rented an apartment for the 2016-2017 school year at Collegetown Terrace in the 112 Valentine building. It is a beautiful, furnished, 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment and my roommate is an awesome girl at the business school. Due to unexpected circumstances, I will not be able to live there next year, and I'm looking for someone to take over the lease. The rent is $1,207.50 a month and includes all utilities except electric. There is a sanitation fee and parking fee. Please PM me if you're interested!!

Re: Cornell Law Class of 2019
So it seems as though the general consensus is that most law students live in Collegetown Terrace? The place honestly seems a bit pricey (given the area). Can anyone recommend more affordable apartments (preferably near the law school as I have never driven in the snow and would rather not have to in the future
)

To piggyback off of this, is there anywhere that shows the rent for the CT terrace apartments? I don't see it on their website.B102 wrote:+1skimmilk wrote:So it seems as though the general consensus is that most law students live in Collegetown Terrace? ^ I just googled it and checked a random apartment website (not CT's own website). Everything appears to be 1k and up a month (though this could be wrong?).

Re: Cornell Law Class of 2019
Lavitz listed some common housing options in the OP:
http://www.travishyde.com/ has a bunch of rental properties in the area as well. CTT with roommates is easy (can rent from CA without worrying about not seeing the place) and relatively affordable, but you can definitely find cheaper stuff that's within walking distance if you poke around google, craigslist, apartments.com etc. First year students can use the bus system for free.
Re CTT pricing: Don't think they list prices on the website - you have to call the office / or stop by during ASW and pick up an information packet. From what I can remember, 3BR's were around 900 a person, 2BR's ranged between 1090 and 1200 a person, and 1BR' / studios were closer to 1400. Definitely double check all of those though.
Also worth noting that a lot of places want a decent amount up front (first, last, and sometimes a security deposit), and Cornell usually doesn't distribute loan money until mid to late August.
- Craigslist
- Cornell's housing site
- Collegetown Terrace: Most popular location. Not super close to the law school, but a very nice apartment complex that is popular with law students. 10-15 minute walk, and a shuttle runs to the law school regularly.
- Ithaca Renting: I linked to Collegetown Center property because it's the closest to the law school.
- IthacaRent
- PJ Apartments
- Certified Properties
- Moll Properties
- 312 College Ave

They don't. You are going to have a difficult time finding a dog friendly apartment complex in Ithaca. I currently live in one, but it's so far away from the law school that I regret living here just about every day.bluefish91 wrote:Anybody know of Collegetown Terrace allows small dogs? Do you live in Boiceville Cottages? That's where I'm headed in the fall, largely because of its dog friendliness.deepseapartners wrote:They don't. I've been having some good luck on Craigslist and the local property management company websites. You're going to be hard pressed to find a decent studio or one bedroom for less than $1k, but there are plenty of 2 bedrooms for just a little more, which is what I'm looking at.skimmilk wrote:So it seems as though the general consensus is that most law students live in Collegetown Terrace? As for pet-friendly places... I'm moving with two cats, and while it's a challenge, I've received some good responses when I begin with, "I can provide previous landlord references for their good behavior and for the condition the apartments were left in."
Anyone else moving site-unseen? I'm coming from cross-country and I can't afford to fly out to look at apartments before I actually move.

No, I live in Candlewyck, an apartment complex on the other side of Cayuga Lake. Boiceville seems like a really nice place for a certain kind of lifestyle, and I'm sure that's why you were attracted to it. Just be aware that you will live farther away from the school than everyone else, and that will come back to haunt you eventually, no matter how much you tell yourself you're prepared for it.toomanymornings wrote:Do you live in Boiceville Cottages? Don't think so. This place allows pets under 25 pounds and is really nice, down near the Commons, not too much further from law school than CTT is: http://cayugaplace.com/ . No idea what the prices are.hopefuljumbo23 wrote:What about cats? Is collegetown terrace cat friendly?

Yeah I'm old and I'll live out there with my partner and our dog. So it's nice for us, but I can see how that would be an exception, and I'm sure there will be times, especially during the winter, when it will suck.deepseapartners wrote:No, I live in Candlewyck, an apartment complex on the other side of Cayuga Lake. Re: Cornell Law Class of 2019
Urgent question (because this apartment will disappear quickly): Is it normal for Ithaca landlords to sign a lease without a credit check, landlord references, or even asking for your social security number? Is it an Ithaca thing? An east coast thing? I've never been asked to sign a lease before going through a credit check before.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
