For anyone traveling up during ASW, do you think there will be adequate time to explore the city? I am traveling with family, and they are dying to see the city itself. I'm not sure if I should cut out of some of the programming to tour Chicago, or that ASW will provide enough time for us to wander around.

Depends on what day you're arriving? It seems like there is a fairly packed schedule and as well, it seems like it takes a material amount of time to get into "Chicago" from campus.cinnabunnyy wrote:For anyone traveling up during ASW, do you think there will be adequate time to explore the city? I'm arriving Wednesday evening and leave Saturday in the afternoon after the last event.

I thought this would be a problem! I visited just the city recently with friends because I wanted to have time to check it out fully. I kind of got the sense all my time would be spent in hyde park for aswcinnabunnyy wrote:For anyone traveling up during ASW, do you think there will be adequate time to explore the city? When you negotiate, do you email the financial aid office? I got 37k/yr from Harvard, and was wondering if I should use that to negotiate with them (they offered me 45k divided into 15k per year).

I emailed Kevin Petty since he's the one who sent me my offer and he sent me a link to the form.Oskosh wrote:When you negotiate, do you email the financial aid office? I'm gonna wait until I get my Harvard offer next week to submit the form so hopefully they take HYS offers into account (I can't imagine they don't).

I also want to explore Chicago and am slightly worried I won't have time. With that being said, it looks as though that pizza thing on Friday will be downtown so I figured I could pop out of that for a bit to at least see the Bean and maybe some other sites?annaliesman wrote:I thought this would be a problem! What are people's thoughts on which other schools' scholarship offers would be most effective to include on the scholarship reconsideration form? Outside HYS, of course.

Was hoping I could do the same. Does anyone mind sharing the schedule of ASW for me? I'd be happy to go downtown with y'all.skimmilk wrote:I also want to explore Chicago and am slightly worried I won't have time. It takes like 25min on the bus and 20 minutes with uber to go from HP to the loop - but I'm not sure what your schedule is this year so I don't know. For those of you that haven't been to Chicago before: go. Hyde Park really isn't "Chicago". It's fine in it's own right, but you gotta see downtown.

Pres. Obama is returning to campus next week to give a talk with one of my 1L professors (he also teaches Con Law)! So exciting.

Driving four hours overnight to a 5am flight, arriving in Chicago at 6:38am. In other words, I'll get to enjoy day one of ASW on approximately 1h 38m of sleep. Here's to hoping they provide lots of free coffee

Hope all y'all have fun at ASW! For what it's worth, Day in the Life last friday was great, very smoothly run, lots of student interaction, and fun to sit in on a class. Very likely to be in Chicago this fall!

Anyone know when we will get our current student pairings? Wondering about making arrangements about whether I should pack a sleeping bag or not like the school's website suggests...
