I think the 55 is fine and I've taken it from Midway several times, but just know that it goes through a rough stretch of Chicago if that shit sketches you out at all. Bags and shit are always a pain on buses, but that's kind of w/e.

Orange line to downtown on the Roosevelt exit. Then uber that shit or take a bus, likely the six. That shouldn't take you too far out of the way and I would feel a lot safer doing that. But I've never riden the 55.

Yeah, totally depends on your background and what you're comfortable w/. The bus goes through legitimately one of the more dangerous parts of the US (the Englewood/Normal area if you're familiar w/ that sort of that or for w/e unfortunate reason you're a Chief Keef fan). But you're also on a bus in broad daylight so nothing is really going to happen to you beyond possibly bothered for change, and if you have issues w/ occasionally being harassed by panhandlers there's something you should know about HP... Basically I'm forced to conclude Mal and Wheninlaw are just scared of black people.

There's really a world of difference between "being scared of black people" and not wanting to, as wheninlaw said, take a crappy bus through a sketchy area. I get it, I don't want to take the bus either if I have better options. It's not like they're making those absurd claims that "Hyde Park is a ghetto" (which you definitely hear some people around school make...those assholes are just scared of black people).

I've actually been really pleasantly surprised by HP--definitely a lot nicer than a lot of the naysayers make it sound.

And I was going to take the 55 to campus, until the ground transportation lady at Midway had a freakout at me and practically dragged me into a cab. In the middle of the damn day. That was ridiculous.

I hope y'all realize I'm just giving Mal and wheninlaw a hard time. While I'm still not sure exactly what people think will happen to them on a bus in broad daylight, it really just comes down to I'd rather have the $30 that'd go to an uber to spend on booze.
