Re: Georgetown Law Class of 2018
anyone else wish they would have aimed higher/ been more aggressive with their scholly feeler response email? Last few days I've been thinking about it and I think I kinda got low balled because I didn't set a high enough baseline number. I basically gave the best scholarship offer I had (at the time) which was decent but not great
Now I'm worried how that's going to affect my negotiations going forward...

Re: Georgetown Law Class of 2018
I went all-out and gave them what could very well be interpreted as ridiculous (for my numbers). My thought process was that I had more to lose if they responded to a reasonable request with a low-ball.supersplittysplitter wrote:anyone else wish they would have aimed higher/ been more aggressive with their scholly feeler response email? I doubt it will affect your negotiations much aside from the fact that you're starting from a lower number. I don't think it's unreasonable to re-request what you originally asked for if you've got something to leverage for it.

Got this too. It's just loans, so I'm assuming it is NOT in response to my scholarship request. I hope.spencermcmanus wrote:Just received email that my full financial aid package (including loans) available through MyAccess.

Re: Georgetown Law Class of 2018
I had previously received an academic scholarship (was in the first round of emails) and it also appeared on that package. I think if you haven't received a separate email responding to your scholarship request, there's no reason to think you're out of the running for a scholarship!Bird Lawyer wrote:Got this too. Thank you for the reply. I need to get on that.navykev wrote:Financial need aid is your best chance - only thing that is considered is your financial need relative to other students.Manifest wrote:Anyone know what kind of aid options you have if you got accepted through the binding early decision process? I'm so happy to have gotten in that I can't even choke on the sticker price yet...
I was planning to go down today, but weather and other considerations changed my mind. If I go next week the best I can do is arrive Friday afternoon, and I'm wondering if this is a waste. My next opportunity would be anytime during the week of April 12th. This will be my first trip to campus, and I haven't looked into money or housing at all yet (just got admitted ED last week).
Any recommendations on whether I should push it next week or wait a couple more weeks when I can go mid-week and presumably have better access to housing/aid/admissions people?
Any other thoughts on must-do activities while I am down there?
Thanks!

Re: Georgetown Law Class of 2018
As far as I can tell - there is no real negotiation on "need based" aid like there is on the merit side (which I don't think they'll entertain since you ED'd). That being said - I'd ask about merit based - all they can do is say no! They're not going to take away your acceptance for asking.Manifest wrote:

All you need to do to be considered for "need based" aid is fill out your fafsa, then the yellow form and wait for the requirements (some student loan online courses) to pop up on your myaccess account. If you go to the open house, you'll get a financial aid brief that covers "need based" aid - it is very informative. I can promise you that any possible question you have will be brought up by one of the parents - they are all trying to figure out a way to get out of paying for their kids law school adventure.
As far as housing - if you are talking on campus housing - it's a lottery system. Every indication I got was that any 1L that applies gets it. Hope that helps! My demographic is a little different than most 0Ls -- I am sure others will chime in with good advice if mine is a little off.
Oh and congrats from one ED to another!!!!

Have people heard back yet about need-based aid. The yellow app says approximately 2-3 weeks, and it has been longer than that.

Tuition went up 4% from 53,130 to 55,255.
If it continues to increase at this rate, we'll be paying 57,465 in 2L and 59,763 in 3L.

I somehow missed the hotline email address - can you post or PM it?Gray wrote:I replied to the feeler email (to the hotline address) on March 6 and got a "Georgetown Law Scholarship Response Received" confirmation email on March 11.commandercup wrote:+1, I sent mine on Monday.eggyolk wrote:Sorry if this has been asked before, but what is the approximate turnaround time between soliciting a scholarship feeler email and receiving a response? Fingers crossed.
Ill be on Canadian bank loans the whole time. In an ideal world, hopefully the dollar gets up to parity for 3 years then crashes when its time to pay back lol

Jesus. Is that why they were seemingly more generous with aid this year?navykev wrote:canadianbrother wrote:Tuition went up 4% from 53,130 to 55,255.
