Does anyone know of/whether someone has put together stats about the "yield rate" for Rubies? I've looked in previous threads but am curious to see whether someone pulled specific numbers about many people choose HYS (or Hamilton or something else) over it.

Also, my understanding from digging through some old TLS threads is that the Ruby is primarily a (very huge) financial benefit, right? Employers will still care more about grades than the Ruby? Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Rubys get a quarterly dinner at nice restaurants where they invite prominent alums and what you make of that networking is on you. I'm sure it being on your resume (which it should be if you get it - why not) is a marginal benefit for some too but that's tougher to quantify.

The one way it potentially might help is looking for 1L jobs early on in the process. Because we get our first set of grades so damn late, it's at least some way you can distinguish yourself prior to those grades coming back. That's pretty marginal, though.

I remember a PI attorney posting in the Applicants thread to the effect that Ruby recipients were given special consideration in his firm's hiring process. It was during the HYS vs. Ruby tussle.

This is probably mostly right, but I did get asked about it during OCI. It might help at the margins, particularly for 1L stuff.

My usual comment is that the mentorship aspect gives a head start on building connections with faculty. That does help with some things, but it's very much a "if you take advantage of it" factor.

I'm going to 3, but really only seriously considering 2 of those (of which Chicago, of course, is one).

I'm headed to 3 out of the 4 schools I've been accepted to. I figure that the more I go to, the better idea I'll have about specific differences between the cultures of the two I'm truly considering. Doing it on the cheap though (staying with friends/family, driving)

Yeah, I feel like going to ASW (or just visiting the school in general; doesn't have to be at ASW) would be really beneficial. I'm hoping to make it out to two schools, but nothing confirmed yet.

I'm going to 4 ASWs, but I did Columbia and NYU in one trip, so I'm only taking 3 trips total. I got into 9 schools, so I'm still going to less than half.

Get a camping sleeping bag meant for mid fall, they roll up really really small. As for a pillow, borrow one from your host? I guess it's just more motivation to drive. . .

Hosts have an air mattress provided by the school and you have to think most of them will at least have a blanket you can use. Most likely a pillow too but that's less of a pain to deal with on a plane.
