Ha, we had one of those last Monday (well it never rains here, but otherwise it was that), I think that represents how roughly half of the people leave this office. Having a festive goodbye lunch with these people is only marginally better.storpappa wrote:That sounds better then a security escort out on a rainy dayIsThisForReal wrote:We had a big, office wide, send off lunch for a coworker today. I just want a nice, quiet, out of the office lunch with the handful of people I don't get annoyed by.
But I think that's asking for too much cus my birthday lunch ended up being all the outer circle people I politely ignore.

Going away lunches?? My office does blowout happy hours that inevitably end in 4am bars, just like God intended.

In the roughly 1.5 yrs I've been working in this >30 people office, we've lost 17 people (and gained a comparable number); 7 of those 17 were walked out by security, one walked himself out in the middle of the day, five quit abruptly (but not in the middle of the day)Gray wrote:I have worked here for 2 yrs almost, and in that time 15 people have left and, of those, 12 either quit abruptly and just walked out, or were fired dramatically.Hand wrote:Ha, we had one of those last Monday (well it never rains here, but otherwise it was that), I think that represents how roughly half of the people leave this office. My county was dry up till just last year.tuxedocat wrote:Going away lunches?? My office does blowout happy hours that inevitably end in 4am bars, just like God intended.
If you grew up here, like I did, and someone sees you buying beer it's likely that they will call or tell your parents (who don't really care).
Also, we don't have security here.

Re: Senioritis / Quitting-my-job-soon-iorits
I was at a customer where an employee I spoke with ever day wasn't there one day. Desk cleaned out, name tag down -- gone. Nice person who was a team player.
I asked the manager if it was okay to even ask and was told that they found out after the fact themselves. Employee X went to HR and asked that their retirement be kept confidential. Their manager didn't even know.
It was so strange that someone who spent years could just cut the cord and leave. The HR rep when they came to inform the manager that Employee X was gone just said that like other HR matters it was kept confidential at the employees request.

That's pretty baller. My dream quitting scenario is based on a friend who was an associate at Skadden. One day he walked into his boss's office, put his blackberry down on the desk, and walked out forever.

Re: Senioritis / Quitting-my-job-soon-iorits
Today I told the partner that I couldn't meet because I've been sick the last couple days and have an appointment this afternoon. Now if she took that to mean that I had a doctor's appointment, then that's on her for adding her own assumptions (logical reasoning, amirite?). I definitely did NOT lie about having a haircut at 2pm.

Last UG class today. Showed up 10 minutes late as usual. Ended early 5 minutes after I got there. Still trying to figure out why the hell I didn't just stay in bed...
