Which makes my decision even more difficult given that I also have UVA to consider. Going to be a tough spring but needless to say, glad to have choices!mmarion44 wrote:Eh, don't underestimate how big a deal UVA is in DC. It's far and away the biggest alumni network in the legal sector of Washington and far more UVA grads work there than anywhere else. You'd be right to say it's not as automatic as the Chicago and NY schools are for their respective cities, but UVA should be the DC litmus school; it has a better network there than Georgetown by a not inconsiderable margin.

Can anyone point me to some more substantial information on what the Hamilton mentorship actually entails? I know about the opportunity to do research with the professor in the 2L and 3L year, but what other opportunities are available for a Hamilton fellow?

It's just a full-ride scholarship. It's named, so you can put it on your resume. There's not much to it than that. I'm pretty sure any student can do research with a prof during their time at the school.

Hey all-- I was nominated for a Paul Richman Fellowship but cannot find anything about it anywhere, including old threads. The C/O 2017 had a poster ask, but no one replied. Have to interview for it on the 6th but don't know how to prepare! I was wondering whether anyone is in a similar situation or knows anything about it. Thanks and congrats to you all!

Ditto. I'm in UAH (not law school housing) and have had a medium sized dog for the past two years and have never once had a problem. I was basically told "Unless it becomes a problem, we don't care." Definitely still do an application for UAH and at least see what they offer you before you go down the rabbit hole of NYC real estate. Vast majority of people I know with spouses, families, SOs, pets, etc. are very pleased with their situation.tina wrote:Hey 1L here! Columbia housing is pretty accommodating to students with SO's and will look the other way on dogs as long as they're small and you're in an unfurnished apt.the_scoundrel wrote:Checking in. Top choice so far, but the prospect of housing in Manhattan is giving me serious anxiety. I've got an SO and a dog, so a lot of the subsidized options are nonstarters. Anyone have a similar reaction/situation to making Columbia work?

+1. I am in the same boat and would love to learn something, anything, about this program.mvp_13 wrote:Hey all-- I was nominated for a Paul Richman Fellowship but cannot find anything about it anywhere, including old threads. Re: Columbia Class of 2018
Yes, a simple google search uncovers this, but it just talks about the center and the establishment of two endowed professorships, but nothing of the fellowship/scholarship program. Surely there's some of these folks walking around CLS these days who might decide to chime in?fastforward wrote:http://www.law.columbia.edu/media_inqui ... man-Center

If no one chimes in, this link (and other Google search results) will tell you what you need to know to prep for the interview.Surely there's some of these folks walking around CLS these days who might decide to chime in?

Those going to both NYU and Columbia's ASW from March 4 - 6: is anyone thinking about sharing a hotel room to reduce cost?

Checking in! I will definitely be attending the March ASW. I know NYU is taking students out in the city to dinner.... cab over to NYU in time for dinner? (jk, sort of, not really)

Hey so has anyone heard anything about housing? The website says housing apps were supposed to go live Feb 16, but it also says you need your PID number which is supposed to come through e-mail. Has anyone gotten theirs?

Nothing here, and my acceptance letter was dated 2/3. Any EDers get anything yet?

Nah, I'm actually ED and the website says housing info usually comes with the acceptance letter so I was just afraid we EDers had maybe been overlooked, but it seems like no one has gotten anything

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I'm guessing they're going to do it en masse for all admits, hopefully this week. Unfortunately I think this is our first taste of Columbia's byzantine, borderline Kafkaesque bureaucracy.

I really thought I knew most of the columbia 1ls who were on tls, but coming to this thread has made me realize I do not.
Re: positive/negative question
Positive: NO FRIDAY CLASS (for a majority of the class unless you are one of the few unlucky souls to have a friday LPW)
Legal methods (the three week joke class at the start of your first semester) is a super awesome way to ease into law school because it is as I said a huge joke but gets you into cold calling and reading in a low stress environment and because it doesn't matter you get to go out with your classmates constantly so it's super easy to meet people.
Negative:
The chairs in the classrooms are really annoying because they are too close together
Gym is shitty

I'd describe the lack of administrative streamlining as enhanced interrogationesque.LetsGoMets wrote:Columbia's byzantine, borderline Kafkaesque bureaucracy.

Yes crawling with undergrads. And we are talking incredibly shitty. Sign up for use of machines but can only use them a half hour (if any are even available). The place is like always busy and crowded. Really just not enough equipment for all the people who use it.Four Winds wrote:How shitty are we talking? Yikes. Thanks for the insight. Do most law students brave the stampede or do they opt for non-Columbia options (NYSC etc.)?Jessasaurus wrote:Yes crawling with undergrads. Re: Columbia Class of 2018
Hi everyone, I've got a bit of a conundrum. I've recently been admitted to Columbia. However, due to a stupid oversight on my part missing the deadline to drop a course, I find myself at risk of failing one of my courses in my last term. Even if I fail this course, I'll still have all my requirements to graduate, and my other marks will be consistent with the GPA that I used to apply with. My question is do you guys think failing a course in my last term will jeopardize my admission to Columbia?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
