I received one for $100 when I visited back in November, was also confused at first since I couldn't find anything online about it.xylocarp wrote:so I got a check in the mail today from UVA for $250. it says "admitted student travel subsidy," but I never requested anything like this and it didn't come with a letter explaining it or anything. I am super confused haha. did anyone else get this?

Re: UVA Class of 2018
figured out the travel subsidy - it was because I stopped by the law school when I was in virginia over thanksgiving break. I actually didn't speak with anyone in admissions except for my interviewer, who I met in the parking lot briefly by chance. and then they just sent the subsidy unsolicited. so, sweet, I guess that's a thing! pretty awesome - I'm loving UVA's new admissions team this year.
also congrats to everyone new who's checked in!

For anyone else who is wondering, I emailed admissions about my upcoming visit in January and was told that, coming from the midwest, they'll cut me a check for $400. No need to submit receipts or anything! So awesome!xylocarp wrote:figured out the travel subsidy - it was because I stopped by the law school when I was in virginia over thanksgiving break. Anyone going to the March revisit weekend and traveling back to DC after it's over? Train would probably be best solo, but maybe it makes sense to carpool if folks are going that way.

For those of you that received $ (not Dillard folks), was that included in your acceptance packet? Or is that a separate letter?

It was a separate letter that came about six weeks after I was accepted. I never got an email about the money, either, just a USPS letter.Winston1984 wrote:For those of you that received $ (not Dillard folks), was that included in your acceptance packet? Or is that a separate letter?

Checking in! I'm really excited about UVA.
Kind of a silly question maybe, but I've heard that at some schools, applying for need-based aid can limit the amount of merit aid you get if the school sees that you or your parents have a higher ability to pay. Does anybody know if this is true for UVA?

Oh. Thanks! I realized you needed to do the FAFSA, but didn't realize you had to actually "apply."WhiskeyAndCupcakes wrote:I have no clue but would like to remind everyone that you HAVE to apply for need-based aid to qualify for federal loans. So, if you'd be debt-financing school at all, keep that in mind! (I know that isn't what you asked, just a reminder to anyone who is considering not applying for need-based aid).Beanie14 wrote:Checking in! I'm really excited about UVA.

Hoping this isn't an immensely stupid question, but exactly how do you get the stipend? Do you just email them and ask for it?hangree wrote:For anyone else who is wondering, I emailed admissions about my upcoming visit in January and was told that, coming from the midwest, they'll cut me a check for $400. Re: UVA Class of 2018
Hey guys, housing was discussed briefly a page back, but I was wondering if anyone has started looking or gotten anything for next year? I checked out the website for The Jeffersonian just now and looks like you really did have to apply in December as they already have no availability.
I'd like to live close to the law school the first year and I think Ivy Gardens would be my best bet. Anything to know about Ivy Gardens, especially when do these units typically fill up? Also, if you have a room in The Jeffersonian for next year and are looking for a roommate, let me know.

Re: UVA Class of 2018
so I drove through charlottesville over winter break on the way to North Carolina (just stopped by for lunch), and since then I've become obsessed with the idea of living on the downtown mall. particularly in these apartments. they're upstairs from a used/rare bookshop. that's like, the dream, haha. now for some pictures of the downtown mall.

They lose points for autoplay video on their site, but those do look like great living spaces. Thanks for the tip, Xylo
