Re: Georgetown Law Class of 2018
Does anyone have a good explanation of the different neighborhoods in DC? I'm starting to look at housing options, but I'm not too familiar with the city.

Anyone thinking of living on campus? I'd hate to live in a dorm, but I'd want to atleast know a bit about the city before I'd sign a lease, and being right on the law school seems cool

Any chance at finding something within a 5-10 minute walk for around 1000/month?Gray wrote:I think monthly rent in the on-campus housing is pretty bad value for the money, even though you're close. There are way better options very close to the school (I'm no expert, but I've been getting good advice from my family and I've spent a LOT of time researching apartments in the area instead of actually working). I for one am probably going to be in Columbia Heights!canadianbrother wrote:Anyone thinking of living on campus? Edit: Just took a look at the off campus housing, have you heard anything about capitol and carmel plazas?
Nah buddy, that's binding, you were actually suppose withdraw other apps once you heard back from georgetownbrightthru2014 wrote:So theoretically if I were to have applied binding to Georgetown but ended up getting into another school that I would rather go to, is there any way to get out of the binding acceptance?

If I were going to GULC I would probably try to live in the Chinatown area. It's close to GULC (read: walkable) but closer to restaurants/bars/museums so you have more things to actually do.
But Columbia Heights is also a great place! Also a lot cheaper.

2L at GULC here taking questions. Career-wise, I'm heading to big law in D.C. this summer. I'm also a veteran and on the board of the Military Law Society at the law center. Happy to help connect y'all to some of the vets here at school. NOTE: the MLS will be hosting a happy hour next Thursday at the Billy Goat beside the law school. Time: 8:00 pm (right after the dinner).
On another note, if you are tight on funds or would like to live in a nicer place, I would NOT recommend Gewirz. The only good thing about Gewirz is its proximity. You can find better places for better prices in NOMA, Capitol Hill or Chinatown (better place, more money). All those areas are close. Eg: I pay $2400 a month for a brand new 2 bedroom apartment (my roommate pays half) in NOMA, 15 minute walk from the law school. Balcony, top floor, corner apartment.
Cheers,
BFalcon

I have a couple question regarding placement. How has your class fared at OCI? Do alot of people self-select into gov't and PI or do they do so because they struck out at OCI?Bfalcon wrote:2L at GULC here taking questions. Re: Georgetown Law Class of 2018
I'm obviously not a stat bank or anything, but in my opinion my class performed extremely well. I'm mostly familiar with my section (approximatley 100 people), but almost everyone who wanted biglaw got biglaw. I know, personally, of four people who did the OCI process and did not get a job. Two of them had below median grades. On the flip side, I know at least a dozen people, if not more, who have V10 offers in D.C. and New York. Lots of people heading to D.C., and if you were top third, it seems like you had a damn good shot at it this year. I know dozens of people who are going to biglaw.canadianbrother wrote:

I had a good conversation with the administration about employment opportunities, and one thing that hits against GULC in the rankings is the number of people who self-select. With the part-time program, the vast majority of people are going gov't (and to a lesser extent) PI. (Aside: I have a friend who was evening program who got Cravath, and I have another friend who got Cravath at OCI). Many people go to Georgetown because it is in D.C., and D.C. is home to government and PI in the U.S. You won't realize it unless you go here, but the school is a constant in and out of government personnel - people coming for panels or meetings, adjuncts teaching courses, etc etc.
I'm not going to sugar-coat it: if you want biglaw, you are going to have to work hard in 1L. Be that as it may, it's certainly not impossible, and if you are smart enough to get into Georgetown and have even half a personality, you have an extremely good chance of biglaw. D.C. Biglaw is a bit more difficult for sure, but NY offers great chances (and you have good chances for Philly, Atlanta, etc etc).

Aren't utilities and Internet included in the price for gewriz? Or is it still too expensive even with those things included?Bfalcon wrote:2L at GULC here taking questions. Has there still been just one round of scholarships going out or have there been more? Anyone have any clue when the next might be?

It's worth it if they use the account well, Chicago's accepted students FB has a good back and forth between current students and prospectives.buckiguy_sucks wrote:Joining the group even though I'm totally still undecided on where I'm attending![]()
