This. Plus, when we toured the place during January's ASW it had a remarkably dismal kitchen. The oven was one of those 1960's tiny ovens you can't even fit a good cookie sheet in. I love to bake so that's a deal breaker right there, but for the cost of that place I'd expect it to at least have a minimal kitchen, a standard I don't feel that the kitchenette meets.Gray wrote:Sadly they don't have housing for students with spouses, so nope.CaptainJapan wrote:Are any TLS'rs planning on living on-campus? That's how I'll rationalize it for now, anyway.

Very seriously considering it, I put a high price on convenience and don't trust myself with an oven anyways. Figured I'd take a look at open house and if the rooms aren't too awful I'll go for it.CaptainJapan wrote:Are any TLS'rs planning on living on-campus? What I was told at ASW is that people who want sec. 3 get it, the number of requests is usually pretty close to the space available.MarvelDCgeek wrote:I'm in definitely going... hoping for sec. 3

I got my acceptance letter yesterday and was admitted via ASW early last week. Is it too early to send a scholarship solicitation email? I know I'm probably being a bit too antsy, but I want to speed up the process (feeler, then actual offer).

If you're living with a spouse (i.e., can live in a 1BR/Studio with another person) there are significantly cheaper options in much better apartments for approximately a 2 minute difference in your walk to class.Gray wrote:Sadly they don't have housing for students with spouses, so nope.CaptainJapan wrote:Are any TLS'rs planning on living on-campus? Anyone else get a scholarship letter in the mail? It was just the email in a physical letter form. Mine was dated the 2nd and I just got it today/this week.
Also, who are you all planning to send the negotiation email to? I noticed that there was a person listed as my contact person in admissions but I wasn't sure if I should address the email to her or not.

Are these regular apartments (no name but could be searched for by neighborhood)? If so, what neighborhood is it that I should be keeping in mind during searches? And/or are these "named" apartments (oh you know, like "Lyric 440" or whatever)? If so, which in particular do you recommend for a SHORT commute (but better deal than Gewirz)?BmoreOrLess wrote:If you're living with a spouse (i.e., can live in a 1BR/Studio with another person) there are significantly cheaper options in much better apartments for approximately a 2 minute difference in your walk to class.Gray wrote:Sadly they don't have housing for students with spouses, so nope.CaptainJapan wrote:Are any TLS'rs planning on living on-campus? 425 Mass and Mass Courts are basically just on the other side of 395 and are at most a 10 minute walk. 77H is about the same. There isn't really a name for the neighborhood (or at least I haven't found one), but those are the three main ones I can think of off the top of my head. If you're cool with a 20-ish minute walk you can start looking at stuff on K street and chinatown.LEPWU wrote:Are these regular apartments (no name but could be searched for by neighborhood)? I'm in the same boat as you: prioritizing convenience and want bouncing between class/library/dwelling to be as painless as possible. I know nothing about the on-campus housing however. Is there somewhere I can read a comprehensive review of the places?
Still in shock that I'm in. Typing this post was surreal...

Checking in! Who's going to be at ASW next week (eek)?
Glad to see there's finally a Facebook group. I wonder how many people accidentally joined the class of 2017 group after clicking the link on the website.
