Has anybody who sent a scholarship negotiation email ~10 days ago heard back?

I sent an email on the 9th, they asked for additional information on the 14th, and nothing since then. I plan on calling tomorrow to ask for an ETA.

Update: Called and I was basically told to call again if I still hadn't heard in a few days.

Second update: Received an increase today after calling this morning.

I sent a scholarship negotiation offer a few weeks ago, they replied a week later asking for additional information. I gave it to them right away and one week after that they responded with an increased offer. PM for details!

I got an email from Cornell Housing that told me I would hear back before the 23rd. Given that today is already the 21st, am I pretty much out of the Grad School Housing game? Has anyone heard back? For what it's worth, I submitted this stuff back in early February.

Anyhow, I was the person earlier asking about "pre-orientation" meet ups, but do not know how to use the formatting on this forum. I look forward to meeting you all. Hopefully we'll get a solid syllabus week to spend time grilling outside and drinking bears

Probably not. Deposit deadline's not even until the 24th, so if they assigned anyone who didn't deposit, those would free up, along with anyone who made the first deposit, so will still withdraw before the second deposit. And if you submitted in early February, that's pretty early and should earn you at least a high waitlist position.

I just deposited yesterday and got an assignment in Hughes today. I thought I was definitely too late, but apparently not

Do you have to deposit before you get a Hughes assignment? I was under the impression we didnt

sent my deposit in a few days ago... despite the fact that cornell said they would not be upping my initial 60k offer... because this really is my first choice school. definitely happy for all the people getting 150k and all, but i rarely see anyone post here that has an offer as low as mine! makes me wonder if im on the low end of schollys :/

I'm pretty sure top applicants are over-represented on TLS. The people posting on here are in no way representative of the general pool. If you look at the numbers that the school provides Cornell is pretty stingy with scholarships despite having insanely high tuition.

Definitely this. 60k scholarship is definitely a better than median outcome at Cornell (an already top school). Not sure what your other options were but congrats

A lot of people just pay sticker at the best school they can get. More than half of Columbia is paying full sticker and I'm sure many of them had large scholarships at Cornell. Frankly, many just go to the highest ranked school they get into, or they'd just rather not live in Ithaca.

As long as they keep the class size below 200 I'm happy.

True, tuition is pretty high, but it's more like having 135K at some of the cheapest T-14s.

Cost of attendance (not tuition) is what you should be subtracting the scholarship from to figure out how much debt you will be left with (which is what matters). After all, Cornell used to justify the higher tuition by claiming that the cost of living was lower here. I think Dean P's getting tuition under control now, but I'd still like to run the numbers on this.

Going through lawschooltransparency, here's what I've come up with. Obviously, there's room to debate the COL numbers, but I'm taking them at face value for now:

Cornell tuition is 60K and COL is 20K = 80K.

NYU is 57K and COL is 26K = 83K.
Stanford is 54K and COL is 29K = 83K.
Columbia is 60K and COL is 22K = 82K.
Harvard is 56K and COL is 26K = 82K.
Penn is 57K and COL is 22K = 79K.
Berkeley is 52K and COL is 27K = 79K.
GULC is 53K and COL is 26K = 79K.
Chicago is 55K and COL is 23K = 78K.
NU is 56K and COL is 22K = 78K.
UVA is 55K and COL is 21K = 76K.
Yale is 56K and COL is 20K = 76K.
Duke is 55K and COL is 20K = 75K.
Michigan is 55K and COL is 18K = 73K.

Indeed, if you go to lawschooltransparency and sort by projected debt at repayment, assuming sticker for all schools, there are seven other T-14s more expensive than Cornell.

So let's take the second-cheapest T-14, Duke, and compare. Using the GULC debt calculator, using starting COA of 75K for Duke and a 40K/year scholarship, you get 133K debt at repayment. Using starting COA of 80K for Cornell and a 50K/year scholarship, you get 115K debt at repayment. Coincidentally, that's almost exactly what you get when you use a 45K/year scholarship at Duke's 75K/year COA. So in conclusion, it's more like a 135K scholarship at a school with a "more reasonable tuition" when that school is the second-cheapest T-14.

Anyway, given that Duke and Michigan are our major competitors, you're mostly right and I should probably be studying for finals...

^Ah guess I was a decent bit off, my cycle was weird in that I was pretty much only accepted to Cornell and some of the T6's (which all have pretty high tuitions), so I was unwisely just assuming that the tuition at schools like Duke/Virginia was closer to the 50k range.

Needless to say, law school tuition is absolutely out of control at every single school.

Alright, just an update and heads up to other on-campus housing applicants.

I received my assignment for 13th South Ave just now. If it helps, I submitted my housing stuff in February (so likely the first batch).

You'd have to check their website for sure but I think it's about $9,200-9,900 a year depending on the size of your room
