our property prof is objectively awfulbuckiguy_sucks wrote:yeah but if you CLICK HERE you get to see a dope picture of the house so that's pretty much all there is to know about propertyCaptainJapan wrote:Am I alone in finding Property to be the most infuriating 1L subject? It's just endless arbitrary rule memorization and learning an entire new vocabulary...the cases we read are so fact-dense and specific it's almost impossible to brief them without just reproducing the text from the opinion.
It may be because our professor decided to beta-test one of her colleague's unpublished textbooks for our course, and it's basically useless. I'm about as low-stress as someone can be...but property has me buggin'
Anyone else, or am I a loser?
our property class is a mess though i don't know that i've learned anything
E: this may be my fault though??
property qua subject was fine until we started talking about estates and concurrent ownership

Property, estates, interests, etc. are all fun. Idk what you guys are talking about. It is basically a history class masquerading as a law class (at least so far).

I enjoyed that you could sometimes google-maps the properties in dispute during class.

There are many times I do wish I could find wonderful - read: useless - stuff to buy on Amazon.

Nothing more thrilling than sifting through a case where all the parties share the same last name and are fighting over a dead relative's possessions.PeanutsNJam wrote:property sucks

I feel super duper lucky to have a really chill Property prof who is also GOOD AT TEACHING. He goes really slowly, if it's one of those annoying family in-fighting cases with like 30 parties all with the same last name, he'll get them all on the board in the proper configuration and take us through each party's interest, we run examples on the confusing shit until everyone gets it, and he freely admits when stuff is needlessly technical and dumb but we need to cover it anyway. So amazing.
Con Law, on the other hand, is just the prof standing up there clicking through slides saying crap like, "We're not going to cover Citizens United in this class, but I had you read it because, like, Citizens United, am I right?"

Is there something about the subject of Property that just naturally draws professors whose personalities are just completely grey and uninteresting? Nicest professor, but man, can he put a room asleep (ignoring how tedious the material is).andthenIwaslike wrote:I feel super duper lucky to have a really chill Property prof who is also GOOD AT TEACHING. Shame about your Con Law professor though, mine has been pretty fantastic. Taught the subject for over a decade now and can really command a room. Has made the material so much more interesting because of it.

I finally get a night to go to bed at a decent hour and of course my neighbors decide to throw a party. Its a Thursday. Why would you throw a party tonight of all nights when half the roads in the neighborhood are closed off for the debate?
