Re: USC (Gould) c/o 2018
Hey there. So people have been hearing back within 24-48 hours. For me and another person itt, it took three+ days, we don't know why. I think it's okay to reserve now, I'm going to do it as soon as I get home (at the airport now).
Also today, I visited Culver City/Palms to check out the area. Pretty nice residential places, quiet.
But hated the LA traffic, I definitely could have walked faster than the cars were going.

Re: USC (Gould) c/o 2018
It took 2 business days for my first attempt at negotiations which is what she said is the norm when I spoke to her over the phone.WhatCouldHaveBeen wrote:How long did it take you all to hear from Mary after your first reach out regarding negotiating? I reached out this morning PST. I love USC and I think id be so happy there! My decisions unfortunatelt are going to be financially driven from here on out.
Also, any strategic advantage to waiting to reserve until I hear from Mary on a possible increase, assuming I do hear before midnight this Weds/15th? I still don't quite "get" this whole reservation thing, only school in my lineup that has anything like it.
Thank you all for being such great resources!!
As for reservations, you could always say yes but you're not fully committed to usc yet.
Hope this helps! Pm me if you have any other questions, otherwise best of luck!

I got a reply in under 24 hours but I wouldn't think (but don't know) it matters with regard to the whole reservation thingWhatCouldHaveBeen wrote:How long did it take you all to hear from Mary after your first reach out regarding negotiating? Mine isn't updated either :/rwe13 wrote:So, I negotiated up my scholarship and am prepared to reserve it, but I noticed that the "download scholarship decision letter" link still shows my original offer. I just wanted to make sure that it's normal for them to not update the portal with the new offer before I reserve it ? just because I'd rather email them about it before reserving than asking them to correct it afterwards.

GUYZ!! I found another great poster from USC beside michael, chimp, and one another person. A 3L from USC here: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 3#p8527623
Ask away, it's "Ask Me Anything" (AMA), a great opportunity if you have questions. (Actually, do help me out there, I don't want to be the only person asking questions, that'll get annoying very fast.

This sounds like a perfect situation for a quick phone call. I would want the new scholly in writing before reserving, totally get your point of view here.
Has anyone tried to negotiate up and been shot down? There seems to be more positive than negative results here...

Bad news: We can no longer have polls anymore because of technical issues. We can have them on occasions that we find to be important. But other than that, I think we OD-ed on polls. Sorry guyz.

It seems people are getting random bumps according to LSN, one of you might be next.

Re: USC (Gould) c/o 2018
Part I. So Law Day was last weekend.
First, I really enjoyed meeting some of you. You all seemed awesome.
My favorite part about Law Day was talking with current students. At the closing reception & student organizations fair, there was this student who felt comfortable with being with mec and I that he did such a goofy thing! Won't forget that haha.
About meeting with current students, I really enjoyed the Student Life panel. There were five current students. They all seemed down-to-earth and friendly. All of them had really great personalities--they didn't seem like they would rip pages off a book or hide books in the library. (Actually iirc, one of them said that they ripped off a page from a book, but that was from his own book, out of frustration hahaha.) They were all from diverse backgrounds. One had lawyers in the family, one was first gen to college. One lived in DTLA, one commuted from home, one had a 30 minute commute. One was interested in biglaw, one in gov't.
They said that their school schedule was from 8am - 6-7pm M-F. They gave a really great piece of advice that they shared with us: Be sure to schedule your "fun" into your schedule as you would for your studies. A full day or half a day where you get to do nothing. Also, all of them told us don't forget to exercise and keep healthy during your 1L year.
It was really funny when they said that you can get free lunch every day if you attend different events and panels. One bought lunch only 3-4 times in their 1L year. So you could survive on free food, but it won't be healthy all the time, they said. They have free Chipotle on occasion, etc. I think they said there are two refrigerators and a microwave in the law building. (Someone correct me if I am saying the wrong things, I blame my bad memory..It was a very long day.)
So wrt small sections, they said that some sections get the morning schedule (8-10am/8am-12pm), and others would get later a later schedule (10am-1pm/10am-2pm).
They said that there are not a lot of dining options near campus. There are some on campus, Lemonade, Seeds. I think one said that the law school cafe has good breakfast burritos haha. And there are plans to open a Trader Joe's right on campus. (I'm trying to remember other details that the student panelists mentioned, but I think that's it for now.)

I think Gould would be much more positively regarded in terms of rankings and whatnot if the tuition wasn't higher than just about every other law school in the entire galaxy/universe

There are still random bumps( 4 people with full rides so far) according to LSN and yet there are so many that haven't even gotten a decision.

Had my scholarship upped from $120k total to full tuition. 50<GPA<75<LSAT. Emailed last week and turnaround time was a couple days less than a week. Wrote a pretty basic email but PM if you want more details.

You guyz just got the email right?
Re: "shaping up to be the best yet," I think they're really going to go for +1/2 spots in rankings. We are very excited about this year's incoming students; the class is shaping up to be the best yet, highly qualified and extremely diverse.

They will go back to 18 easily where they use to be if they rig the median with splitters like WUSTL and Emory do(not sure if USC did that) and hire more of their own grads( this is something they did this cycle).
Having said that it seems like wishful thinking about " the best yet". High LSAT are down by about 10% and what happens when the t-14 start raiding their class by acceptances USC matriculates from their waitlist in a month or two?

I got the former as well, but a lot can happen, on both ends (applicant and school), between now and deposit deadlines. I think we're all (or certainly me!) figuring this out as we go...

Guys I really don't know what to do! My head is going to explode and there's a seat deposit on Friday. I think I will definitely need an extension on that in order to really figure out what I want.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
