Re: UC Berkeley (Boalt Hall) Law Class of 2018
Berkeley doesn't require a monetary deposit for at least a few months, if at all (forget the exact stipulation) - it's just a verbal agreement due 4/15 (can be tentative) and the next one is due 6/1 (final decision). So, at least you won't lose money double depositing as far as Berk goes, though you would for the other school if you matriculated to B.

Could we get a new poll?
Maybe one for scholarship amounts with an option for 'haven't heard yet

So has anyone flat-out gotten denied from matching yet? Or is the reason they're taking so long is because they're waiting to deny us poor souls at once? :/

+1. Submitted my matching and interest forms back in February and still no word...the wait is just annoying at this pointNutellaDipity wrote:And one with "admissions is ignoring me"fra wrote:Could we get a new poll?

I'm pretty sure someone did report getting denied. She/he ended up being offered a scholarship a few days later though. I think it was reported within the last few pages ITT.sheishkabob wrote:So has anyone flat-out gotten denied from matching yet? So, I emailed the Fin Aid office last week, and got a response today saying that they expect to have most of the offers out by the 15th. After that, they will continue to make offers "based on funding availability", which in my interpretation means "if other people turn theirs down". Thought this might be helpful news for those of us still waiting/needing to respond to other schools.

Are most of the scholly offers right now just matching ones? Does Berkeley offer merit aid to people who didn't apply for matching?

They do offer non-matching merit aid. Many of us are still waiting (and waiting...and waiting) to hear on that front, but it seems like TCR is that they're going to try to have *most* of those offers out by the 15th.hayoungiee wrote:Are most of the scholly offers right now just matching ones? That email came in and I was like, well, if you'd definitively tell me if I'm getting any money or not, I might be able to make this decision in a week. But the way it stands now, no.leslieknope wrote:It's a week to the first deposit deadline, how have we still. not. heard.

I saw an email with Berkeley and my heart leaped. So disappointing to have it be a reminder the deadline is only a week away and I have no information to base my decision on lol.

Truly enjoyed Dean Tom's side comment in that email:

I love Dean Tom. He's so underrated whenever T14 dean ranking discussions come up.paragonloop wrote:Truly enjoyed Dean Tom's side comment in that email:

I've already submitted my "tentative" response, I guess that's why I didn't get that email?

What do you guys think of tentatively accepting vs. waiting until the last minute in terms of leverage?

I tentatively accepted way back when I was accepted and it didn't seem to hurt my matching app at all but YMMV.sheishkabob wrote:What do you guys think of tentatively accepting vs. waiting until the last minute in terms of leverage?

Alright Berk, we know today is the day the first round of scholarships expire and we're all good and ready to have them redistributed!

I submitted my matching app two weeks ago and would love to hear about that as well.
I love you so much Berk. You keep sending me all these promotional emails saying 'we should hang out some time', but then when I try to make actual plans you ignore all of my texts.

Re: UC Berkeley (Boalt Hall) Law Class of 2018
Doesn't look like will be getting any scholarships from the schools on the matching list, so hoping to get some other merit based grants. Got 22K in need based.
So far, my big concern is housing though. I am currently paying $1100 for a studio in NYC's outer borough, which is a lot for me becuase I work in PI, so I was hoping I could get something cheaper in Berkeley, but it does not look like it
... Having a cat complicates things even more. Even places in Oakland and North Berkeley that are pet-friendly are over $1000 (except for that one Craigslist post from a person with a pig, a dog, two cats, and a python (I don't mind the rest, but a python????)). Is anyone looking for a roomate (and doesn't mind a cute and well trained cat) or has any suggestions for finding affordable pet-friendly housing in Berkeley? Is it even worth it getting a broker?
