Sup! Any summer starters here???

I have a clean/modern sublet available from early May until after finals in August. 1 minute walking distance (for real!) from the LS in south state street! Free laundry and internet. PM me if interested.

Also just going to pass on that a few of the current students at ASW told me I shouldn't have to pay more than $500 for a nice one bedroom. I feel like that number may be a little on the low side but it at least gave me an idea of the price range I should look for.

IDK - I've been trying to find housing (its what I do if there is even the most remote possibility I will move somewhere) And rents seem a bit high compared to here in San Antonio. Granted, we have a really low cost of living here and the area I'm looking is right by the campus, but still. Most of the 1 bed rooms within a mile are over 900 and I'm not finding a lot. If anyone has any leads of where to look, lmk. I have two dogs and will have a husband. We would actually prefer a 2 bed.

I agree -- housing in Ann Arbor is more expensive than where I live currently & more expensive than most of the other schools. I talked to a current 1L and she said that paying $900 for a bedroom is a little more expensive than normal so I guess there must be some stuff closer to campus that is cheaper that I just haven't found yet.

As a current undergrad here, I can tell you that housing dramatically reduces in price even with small increases in distance from campus. Within a quarter mile of campus, housing is regularly $1000+/month, but if you are willing to live about three-quarters of a mile away, you can get it for under $500/month, and if you go three or four miles away, you can get it for $300.

It's really not bad as long as you don't mind walking more than five minutes.

I will say though that if you do want housing near campus, it will be hard to find. In undergrad the rule of thumb is that you should always have your housing secured by the end of November, because there is very little left after that.

If I end up going here I plan on driving and just living a few minutes away.

In terms of long-term leases, try this site: http://www.cribspot.com. It was started by Michigan grads so I imagine they have a decent foothold in Ann Arbor housing.

As a 3L I can say that you can find really cheap stuff over the summer ($300-500 for a bedroom in an apartment) or $600+ for a 1 bedroom. But I would be careful with anything too cheap--that tends to be undergrads that don't worry about the type of subletter they are getting for $250 a month. Some of those places are just gross. If you can go see them--great. If not, be careful. As someone with a decent/nice one bedroom about an 8 min walk from the law school, I have been able to get almost my full rent ($850) each summer. So don't necessarily expect everything to be cheap, although most people are certainly negotiable, especially now.

As far as full-time living, I can tell you my $850 apartment is a steal after living here 3 years and seeing where other law students live and what they pay. If you want to be within a 10 minute walk, and you want a 1 bedroom, expect to pay at least $800.

For those looking for dog-friendly apartments, try Woodbury Gardens. I know people who live there and like it. They have a shuttle that goes btw there and campus.

Honestly, I'm a 2L and I've been really surprised at the COL. Ann Arbor isn't cheap if you want something nice, and that's part of why I did lawyers club the first year. There is a new spot on 4th street where a bunch of my friends live that is nice, but it's a 5 bdrm spot and that gets kind of fratty for me.

That being said, I found a nice place for this year. So I'll shamelessly plug the summer sublet here which includes an exchange for really good outlines from someone who finished 1L top 10%, as well as advice on classes/exams over the summer. (Kind of kidding about the exchange, but also kind of serious.)

In all honesty, it's a super nice 2BR fully furnished with 1 room already taken by a girl from TLS. Let me know if you're interested.

Yea don't pay too much for sublets. Mine is on the higher end in terms of price because of location and its just nice. Like someone said, Ann Arbor is not cheap if you want something decent a block away from the school. You can get a bedroom for less than 300 per month.. I did but the place was trashed, the floors were not even etc.

Yes. The university and Ann Arbor have a pretty good bus system, and there are ZipCars around, etc. There are also taxis and shuttles that can take you to the airport. Naturally, having a car is more convenient, especially if you want to take frequent trips outside the city or need to buy many groceries. The further away from campus you live, the less convenient not having a car will become.

The Lawyers' Club is new, and each room has a private bathroom. There are no kitchens, though, so most of your meals will be in the dining hall. It is conveniently located. The Gothic architecture is very aesthetically pleasing.

The advantage of living in an apartment is that it could be cheaper than living in the LC. You can cook your own meals (this can be a negative if you don't want to cook, ha!). You get more living space. You're not living around other law students. Depending on where you live, it can be much quieter.

I will add on that I have survived here very easily without a car for 4 years. There is a CVS and a Walgreens that immediately border campus and the university buses that run every ten minutes or so can take you to Kroger.

There are quite a few to the south of campus around the stadium. You could probably get a lot closer if you didn't care about having a washer/dryer in the apartment (that was the deal breaker for me)

For any summer starters, I'm subletting a fully furnished place literally a 2 minute walk from the law school and will also give you some really extraordinary outlines and attack outlines for all your 1L classes from someone who finished top 10%.

You may want to look at Harbor House if you want a pet friendly complex. An AATA bus stops in front of the complex. If you have a car, you can swing around to the park and ride and hop the bus that goes straight down State. You can also live at the back of the complex and walk to the Park & Ride.
