I don't have any internet-appropriate drunk stories, but Mr. Xylo once ate an entire frozen corndog.

Re: TLS 0Ls: The Final Summer (Y0LO)
I may be unusual here in that most of my bad decisions happen when I'm sober, but usually involve whether or not to go drinking. That's probably because the conversations tend to go like this:Gray wrote:ITT share your most humiliating drunk decision making
"Hey TT, do you wanna go out?" "Sorry, I can't because [reason]." "Are you sure? It'll be fun!" "Oh, ok..."
The worst decision I remember was that it was a very cold winter day and I had a case of Pneumonia and was under strict orders to stay home in bed, but it was my gf's 21st Bday and I wanted her to have a good time, so I went out. At the time she did this thing when she had a few too many where she would run all the way home no matter if that was a good idea or not ("I feel like an airplane!"), and this being her 21st she had a few too many. I ran after her because I wanted to make sure she didn't die in the freezing cold and ended up running a mile and a half or so in that weather with pneumonia.
I was a gravely ill Toucan the next day.

What part of it do you like most, the part where it burns your mouth or the part where your breath smells like ass for the rest of the night?

Re: TLS 0Ls: The Final Summer (Y0LO)
It's definitely an acquired taste. I took a fall/winter to basically force feed myself a glass of it every night until I started to enjoy it. Now I'm homeless, but dammit I love scotch.Kinky John wrote:What part of it do you like most, the part where it burns your mouth or the part where your breath smells like ass for the rest of the night?

Not the way Mrs. Toucan likes it. Here's her Martini recipe:Kinky John wrote:that's a mixed drinkOhBoyOhBortles wrote:and martiniswonka wrote:Scotch.Kinky John wrote:In what situation could drinking liquor neat possibly trump any of these other options?
1) Pour lots of gin into a mixing glass with ice.
2) Wave a bottle of vermouth over the mixing glass.
3) Stir, and then strain into a glass.
4) Drink

I add an olive usually, but that's pretty much the best way to do it.TasmanianToucan wrote:Not the way Mrs. Toucan likes it. If it has a name (martini, churchill, etc.) and/or a garnish it's a mixed drink

You can classify your beverages as you see fit. I'll decide what to call the ones I drink.Kinky John wrote:If it has a name (martini, churchill, etc.) and/or a garnish it's a mixed drink

So if I forget the olive is it a mixed drink? It's still a martini, but there's nothing "mixed" about it.Kinky John wrote:If it has a name (martini, churchill, etc.) and/or a garnish it's a mixed drink

That's a Churchill then. Depends if you think the thought of vermouth adds anything to the drinkTasmanianToucan wrote:So if I forget the olive is it a mixed drink? Re: TLS 0Ls: The Final Summer (Y0LO)
Actual bartender here (well, was for around 2 years). Waving vermouth, obviously, does literally nothing and is pointless and dumb. I worked in a speakeasy full of 40+ men and they all agree any bartender that pulls that shit is dumb. I also didn't come across anybody who takes drinking vodka martinis seriously.
Vodka is tasteless; gin is not. Gin has very complex flavor. The reason you stir it with ice is:
- To chill it, but not too much
- To dilute it, but not too much
When you shake a drink, you freeze it, along with shattering the ice and increasing surface area to volume ratio (thus melting the ice faster). Vodka martinis are classically shake because Vodka is ass, so having it freezing cold and rather diluted isn't bad. Gin is flavorful, so you don't want to mess with it too much.
Stirring any spirit with ice counts as "mixing" it, since you're adding water, which substantively changes the drink.
An olive martini garnish adds a very subtle saltiness. If you love salty, you can get it dirty. A lemon twist is for people who don't like olives/salty liquor, and adds a refreshing scent to the drink. Garnish is all about personal taste. Traditionally all cocktails must have a garnish, but if the customer doesn't want it then fuck the garnish. If the customer wants a gin martini with a grapefruit twist that's what they'll get.
If you want a stirred vodka martini with no garnish, then it's a vodka martini. A Churchill is 3:1:1:1 scotch, vermouth, cointreau, lime juice.
