The last thing regarding PI I'll add is that the Pritzker fellowships seem legit and are a huge step in the right direction. http://www.northwestern.edu/newscenter/ ... ships.html

I will say that even though NU is very biglaw focused and even the clinic set up looks and feels like a law firm, the tradition behind the clinic is anything but establishment. Like when it started it was in the basement, there were mattresses down there for attorneys/students to sleep on, and (allegedly) people on the lam from the law would crash/pass through. It's really kind of awesome and a bunch of awesome people work there. Part of it is probably a function of its location in Chicago (home of the horribly behaved Chicago Police Department) but IMO you'd be hard pressed to find PI operation, much less a clinic, with the track record the Bluhm legal clinic/MacArthur Justice Center have.
Clinic has easily been the highlight of law school for me and has really helped me start to figure out exactly what form I want my career to take long term.

Re: Northwestern Class of 2018
Hey guys! For everyone who has paid their deposit already - we just have to get the money to them by April 30 right? NU has quickly become my #1 choice and I'm about ready to take the plunge! I'm just nervous about waiting on another scholarship but still making sure they get my deposit on time, so just looking for some confirmation that I'll be cool to pay online a couple of days before the 30th

Nope. Nothing yet.masterherm wrote:I think you'll be fine.. has anyone heard about scholarship renegotiation yesterday or today?
Trynalaw- You'll be 100% okay depositing the day of the deadline. I do think NU has a time deadline on the 30th though, which is unusual (in my experience). It might be noon? I'll check.
ETA: Can't find it. I don't remember where I heard that either.

Yeah their website isn't very informational and I couldn't find the time in any of my old emails either, but I think you're right. I'll just do like a day in advance just in case. Thank you for assuaging my fears OBOB!OhBoyOhBortles wrote:Nope. Nothing yet.masterherm wrote:I think you'll be fine.. has anyone heard about scholarship renegotiation yesterday or today?

Probably not attending NU, but with the way NYU and Columbia are dicking me around this cycle, it looks like I might have to drop $750 just to be safe
Oh, and I really appreciate your insight feralinfant. I want to be a prosecutor, and NU's LRAP was already discouraging enough.

No problem. There is a change in the winds, not just at NU but generally as prosecutors offices begin to be more collaborative and have conviction integrity units but the CWC's history with the CCSA has led to deep mutual distrust that will take a lot of time to thaw. It was originally extraordinarily confrontational and the history is actually pretty fascinating especially when you consider the corruption on both sides of the v. that led to operation Greylord, but the result is that a CCSA attorney's baseline opinion of NU students or lawyers is very negative and the feeling is pretty mutual. You won't be hated if you extern there or anything but you will want to distance yourself from Bluhm to the ASAs you work with so they think you're "one of them."White Dwarf wrote:Probably not attending NU, but with the way NYU and Columbia are dicking me around this cycle, it looks like I might have to drop $750 just to be safe

I will say that I've been encouraging a classmate pursuing prosecutors offices to lobby the administration for a change in the way the practicums are structured for DA/CCSA externships but we'll see if they consider that at all. In addition to it being in her interest I really think that having people with integrity pursue that work is one way of reforming it, so I wish the school would push harder for it. You could try e-mailing Maureen Stratton and see if she can outline for you how you would structure your credit from externing at CCSA and maybe she would have a better answer. Or maybe she won't which is itself probably a useful answer.
Another thing that sucks: unless you extern in traffic or another division at the Daley center you will have to be commuting to 26th and California which is (1) a grim place and (2) very very far away from school. Traffic is cool though, you do a lot of trials.
Another thing that shouldn't be totally discounted though is that despite the difficulties (and assuming you're not averse to CCSA and its mixed reputation), that NU does have the advantage of being in Chicago. So just like with firm jobs, you help yourself a lot by proximity to arguably the biggest non-NY market and thus help improve your chances at acquiring a job. Getting a job in a Chicago firm or as an ASA is by no means a lock from NU but I really believe this is an understated advantage of the school versus a peer like Michigan or Virginia.

Re: Northwestern Class of 2018
The only thing I'm waiting on is scholarship reconsideration from NU and to see how much I'll be offered by what was my first choice school prior to NU's offer. If they get close, it's going to be nearly impossible to make the choice. Right now with the discount I'm getting at NU, they're out in front.
Totally feeling Chicago and the building, and everyone was pretty great at ASW.

Can anyone confirm whether or not NU is fine with double/multiple depositing?

I've been thinking about the same thing and I can't find anything where they explicitly say they disallow it. This spivey article basically says you're cool until May 15 when the schools will run a report and find out if you're double deposited, but I think it might be a good idea to either ask for an extension at one school and deposit at the other or just email and ask if a double deposit is okay in your situation!

Thanks Trynalaw, I just called admissions and asked for a clarification. Here's my takeaway:trynalaw123 wrote:http://spiveyconsulting.com/blog/the-mu ... ot-happen/OhBoyOhBortles wrote:Can anyone confirm whether or not NU is fine with double/multiple depositing?

1. They don't mind double depositing intially.
2. I was told that i will have to make a decision eventually (of course) but that there wasn't a firm deadline yet in place. (Meaning one will be communicated later, I assume?)
3. They also mentioned being able to see which students have multiple deposits "closer to the summer" (sounds pretty close to Spivey's May 15th.)
