For anyone still wondering, early check-in was a breeze and I did not make any plans for it beforehand.

Oh yeah I'm definitely gonna wait until I hear more. Just trying to be prepared because I have a few 4/1 deadlines.mwonka wrote:Congrats, Michigan is great!lim wrote:Hi all, new here. Just got accepted and super excited!
Do you think I would be able to successfully negotiate money with a very high WUSTL offer on the table? I know they're not quite peers, but I figured it was worth asking what you guys think.
I think you should definitely try! I know that people have negotiated up from nothing at all, so it's quite possible. Michigan seems to be rather generous with their non-named aid compared to some others in the T14. Have you gotten your initial offer yet? It may be better than you expect. I wouldn't try to negotiate without first seeing what they're going to give you.
Awesome, thanks! I'll definitely give it a shot.
Excited for ASW

I don't think doing karaoke and dancing on tables is a regular occurrence, but I get the impression that they are a genuinely happy bunch.

Did not go to either of those places. Though I think the IP Law folk have a bar night at Blue Lep tonight. The main thing last night was an auction for Student Funded Fellowships which ended around 10:30. I thought it was pretty chill since it wasn't actually an Admissions event so it gave us more of a chance to just observe the Michigan Law community. They auctioned off stuff like dinners/drinks/skydiving/self-defense lessons with faculty, among other things. When I saw it on the schedule I imagined a super tame and sort of boring event but it was really fun.

Hey guys I have a question about the scholarship amount that shows up on the admitted students website. In the email I got it says I was awarded one amount for all 3 years, but on the site it only gives a total for the equivalent of 1 year. Is that normal or should I contact financial aid?

Normal. Mine's the same way. It's just showing what you will be awarded each year. I had a meeting with financial aid yesterday and they explained everything.liz9332 wrote:Hey guys I have a question about the scholarship amount that shows up on the admitted students website. I was astounded by how much I genuinely liked everyone I talked to all weekend - especially the faculty and current Michigan students. They were all so interesting and approachable, even outside the admissions events. I left feeling confident that this is a great community that supports its own. The overall atmosphere and quality of life is excellent and it seems easy to be happy there. That being said, at times it felt very undergrad-y.
Loved Sherman Clark and the mock class. Enjoyed the real class, too. The faculty reception was way better than expected. Endless flow of food and drink didn't hurt anything either.
I was impressed by the judicial clerkship breakout session but not sold by the public interest crowd. Private practice session was about what I expected.
All in all, great weekend! I'll probably end up there.

Adding too that I was surprised to like Ann Arbor as much as I did! Did some exploring on Saturday - there are cool museums and delicious food (mmm cilantro garlic fries at Frita batidos) and a good amount of beer on tap everywhere. Really cute downtown area, definitely could live there.

Mwonka - I was in one of the PI sessions - what left you unimpressed? Agreed the 2 speakers weren't dynamic or were you talking about the other kids in the session (i.e. me).mwonka wrote:Agreed.lokikoala wrote:I thought they did an incredibly impressive job of demonstrating the whole collegial business. I think I just felt like they were saying "look up some alumni" and nothing too concrete about placement or opportunities. I wasn't totally disappointed but I didn't get the impression that there was a whole lot of institutional support, either. I guess PI is really tough across the board, though. Agreed on their LRAP - I like that it's totally income based.
PS human trafficking clinic is exciting.

Also just going to pass on that a few of the current students at ASW told me I shouldn't have to pay more than $500 for a nice one bedroom. I feel like that number may be a little on the low side but it at least gave me an idea of the price range I should look for.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
