Wut? I see 93 big law, 37 federal clerkships, and 351 grads. 130/351=37%. Are you counting all firms over 100?lawschool1741 wrote:FYIzombie mcavoy wrote:UT dropped

I think he meant that UT's information dropped. Not that their numbers dropped as in less than.rkspurs21 wrote:Wut? I see 93 big law, 37 federal clerkships, and 351 grads. 130/351=37%. Are you counting all firms over 100?lawschool1741 wrote:FYIzombie mcavoy wrote:UT dropped

100+ is generally how big law is defined. Any particular firms included in that number that you think are objectionable?rkspurs21 wrote:Wut? I see 93 big law, 37 federal clerkships, and 351 grads. 130/351=37%. Are you counting all firms over 100?lawschool1741 wrote:FYIzombie mcavoy wrote:UT dropped

Every 100+ firm I can think of in TX starts out at 160K. Might be some that are 120K or 140K or so but I can't think of any. Strasburger maybe? They might not be 100+ though, not sure.

Nope, just thought big law was defined as 250+. Researched more and found that isn't the case.BigZuck wrote:100+ is generally how big law is defined. Strasburger and price is definitely 120k. I have a relative that's worked there for many many years. Great firm though

Re: Texas Class of 2018
I asked this in the decisions thread, but this is likely the better spot for it - just got in off the waitlist and am very pleased. When should I expect scholarship info (if any)? Dean Ingram told me the deposit deadline is 3 weeks after the date of my acceptance letter, and I'm strongly considering Northwestern's 3/4ish schollie offer. I'm antsy to start negotiating because I'll need some $$$ to be able to stay in Texas. Thanks for any info!

Well matching takes like 48 hours, so you can wait a little while, but I would figure at this point they'd have it to you pretty quick or not at all.rkspurs21 wrote:I asked this in the decisions thread, but this is likely the better spot for it - just got in off the waitlist and am very pleased. That's what I'm guessing, she mentioned something about the new scholarship process but didn't really elaborate other than to say I should hear soon. I figure I'll call just for an update next week if there's no word. I saw from LSN that they've been pretty generous with applicants accepted off the waitlist in the past. Glad to hear negotiation goes quick, thanks for the info.
Has anyone used a t-14 offer to get close to the same COA w/ a scholarship at UT? I'd love to stay, but even in-state sticker is too much debt for me to take on.

Just got my acceptance last Friday, will probably be attending in the fall. Just wanted to say hey to the group and was wondering if anyone had started searching for housing already. The FB housing group isn't too active yet. Wanted to see if anyone was getting an early start thou.

I've been looking at housing. A few pages back someone who is currently attending UT gave a very helpful description of places to look, where to live, commute times etc...dizzydg wrote:Just got my acceptance last Friday, will probably be attending in the fall. Yeah I saw that post--I have a pretty good idea of area and price range, I'm more just looking for a group of new or existing law students also looking for a place. Didn't know how to start hunting for roommates besides spamming the FB group.
Anyone have any other suggestions/also in a situation like mine? I'm in austin now and can physically hunt for places. Anyone feel free to PM me if they want to talk more about it/compare price ranges and preferences!

Re: Texas Class of 2018
I used trulia.com at the suggestion of another member, and already found an apartment and signed a lease! I have a dog so my options were limited, and I'll be out of town most of the summer so I couldn't wait too long to find housing--I also move in July! Honestly, I feel like more and more houses/apartments/condos are opening every day, so there's more variety in finding housing, especially by the law school.dizzydg wrote:FairchildFLT wrote:I've been looking at housing. I'm also starting to look for a place. I'm not local so it's a bit of a pain. I've got to find a place that allows large dogs so if anyone had any tips on that front, let me know.
On a related note, if anyone is looking for roommates and wouldn't mind also living with a dog, shoot me a PM (hope this is the right place to post this).

Re: Texas Class of 2018
Wondering if someone knows Austin well enough to give me some traffic insight. I'll be living a mileish south of 183, right off 35. Any ideas about how long it'll take in the morning?

Assuming you don't take I-35, 15-18 minutes. Feel free to PM me for details.

Would living in Mueller be secluding yourself from most other law students?

What's the deal with the June 5 Letter of Intent they have listed on FreshLaw? I've been looking around and can't find any details.

Re: Texas Class of 2018
I have very (very) little LS social life since 1L, so take this with a grain of salt, but I doubt that would be of any consequence. From my 1L days when I did have a life, the only thing that affected social life in terms of where you lived was distance, not exact location. Basically if you lived in the 'burbs, you were pretty secluded, but if you were within close proximity to school and downtown areas, you were fine.ano957 wrote:Would living in Mueller be secluding yourself from most other law students?

In your acceptance package it said during the summer you would get a letter of intent to fill out instead of a second deposit.texanslimjim wrote:What's the deal with the June 5 Letter of Intent they have listed on FreshLaw? I've been looking around and can't find any details.
