Wow I haven't heard of anything close to this price for a UAH studio. Would be a great snag.ChemEng1642 wrote:Nope it was like a 6 minute walk from the law school. If I can snag that I'd be pretty happy. If not, I'm gonna go with the apartment share.

Re: Columbia Class of 2018
So I'm not by any means committed anywhere, but what I noticed at ASW - though I'm sure it's not the case here - was that there seemed to be a REALLY high number of people who had either ED'd or made it clear that they were going no matter what. I guess that Columbia name just makes people (or at least, people not on TLS) go for sticker?andthenIwaslike wrote:I really can't believe how late Columbia gets all its non-named merit aid out. There seem to be a lot of you who are already committed to Columbia, which is awesome, but you can't all be Butlers and Hamiltons - just out of curiosity, how many people are expecting sizable need aid, or sizable merit aid, or have just made their peace with loans? I'd love to be able to say I'm planning to go to Columbia, but until I hear back from Fin Aid I'm assuming I'd have to pay sticker, in which case hello Charlottesville.

Not sure if this came up yet, but how sizeable is this "need-based aid" generally for those who didn't get a named scholly? Do they offer more than nominal $?

But if you kept the ASW schedule - it was the only studio in the first housing tour time slot!

I thought all the cheap studios were Teacher's College/General Studies

Looking at the March 5 schedule, and I see two studios in the first slot, one in Lenfest and one at 544 W. 113th. There's no way a Lenfest studio is that cheap, so it must've been the other one. It actually says "Couples' Housing Studio", does that sound right?ChemEng1642 wrote:Crap I don't remember.LetsGoMets wrote:Wait really? ETA: I guess it's possible it's that cheap if it's on the way low end of the scale here: http://facilities.columbia.edu/housing/ ... efficiency
I cannot imagine living in only a few hundred square foot studio with my SO though (not that I'm planning on doing that, just reacting to their statement that they prioritize UAH studios for couples). I think we would kill each other before Thanksgiving.

Yes! Sorry should have clarified this was couples' housing. I can't imagine doing that either haha but there was a one bedroom couples' housing place for $1580/mo + $100/mo in utilities that was pretty nice too!LetsGoMets wrote:Looking at the March 5 schedule, and I see two studios in the first slot, one in Lenfest and one at 544 W. 113th. Re: Columbia Class of 2018
Just to double check...there are four things we need to turn in to be considered for "need" (/merit) based aid right? The financial aid questionnaire, 2014 tax returns, transmit FAFSA and Need Access? Is the fifth item on the financial aid questionnaire checklist "Federal Loan Applications to Federal Direct Loans or Private Loan Applications to FAO" just referring to sending a copy of whatever loan you apply for (Stafford/Grad PLUS) to the FAO? Is it correct that if we aren't intending on taking out any loans, we don't need to worry about that fifth item and we should be good if we just completed the first four? Thanks in advance!!

The fifth item isn't really needed until you're already deposited. I think it said may 15th was the deadline for that formstephcurry wrote:Just to double check...there are four things we need to turn in to be considered for "need" (/merit) based aid right? I'm also about 95% set on Columbia! The idea of living in NYC next year is both exciting and very, very scary.curlietop86 wrote:anyone committed to columbia? i'm waiting on one more decision, but i'm about 95% sure i'm ending up here next year. so excited to be nearing the end of this process!!
Anyone else visiting on the last admit event on April 20?

Pretty happy that it doesn't seem like it will be as long and drawn out as most ASDs are. Just enough to get a nice taste of the school/area

Re: Columbia Class of 2018
Yo so I just got my aid report from NYU and got nothing -- guessing this means nothing from Columbia. Had been hoping to get some aid out of Columbia using NYU as leverage. Next highest ranked school I am into is Michigan, who gave me a nice chunk of change. Is it at all feasible to negotiate with CLS using that Michigan money as leverage? Or the for that matter with NYU (and then negotiate with CLS)? My only other thought would be negotiate using HLS admit as leverage -- but this is a real long shot as I am waitlisted. Do I just consign myself to paying sticker?

Would really love my aid right now so that I can start negotiating between Columbia and NYU. Would love to end up at either school next fall.
