Not going to Duke next year, but when you get down there, go grab some food at Nana Taco. You won't regret it

Thanks for the tip! Would love to hear good food options. Went to Satisfaction while I was there visiting. Very good pizza.GoneSouth wrote:Not going to Duke next year, but when you get down there, go grab some food at Nana Taco. You won't regret it

Had The Federal while I was there this past weekend. Had pork with a blackberry sauce and it was great.Winston1984 wrote:Thanks for the tip! Would love to hear good food options. I went to Dame's Chicken and Waffles, Watts Grocery, and Gonza Tacos y Tequila when I visited. All were amazing.

If you guys are bbq fans I recommend the original q shack. Grabbed lunch when I visited and really enjoyed it!
With regards to housing, are all of you looking at 1brs/houses or is anyone thinking of splitting a 2br? I've been in a 1br for a few years now since undergrad but the prospect of saving a few hundred a month is super enticing.

There are too many places to name, but common recommendations (including some others have already posted) include Dame's, Q-Shack, Nana's, Nanataco, Monut's & Rise (both biscuit/donut places), Foster's (for brunch), and the Pit. Tobacco Road, which I think those of you who went to ASW got to see, has great food that I never actually see recommended (the Georgia Peach BBQ Chicken and Hurricane Tomato & Avocado Sandwich are my personal favorites).Winston1984 wrote:Thanks for the tip! Awesome list! What are the best bars to go to? Is there any bbq place around that isn't North Carolina style?Serett wrote:There are too many places to name, but common recommendations (including some others have already posted) include Dame's, Q-Shack, Nana's, Nanataco, Monut's & Rise (both biscuit/donut places), Foster's (for brunch), and the Pit. The bar question I personally can't help with (past saying that Shooters* is the token gross undergrad, ride-the-bull shitshow bar). For non-NC barbecue, Q-Shack is actually more Texas-style (and I get the beef brisket there, so doubly so in that case).Winston1984 wrote:Awesome list! What are the best bars to go to? While we're on the subject of food, Only Burger is also crazy good.secadc11 wrote:I went to Dame's Chicken and Waffles, Watts Grocery, and Gonza Tacos y Tequila when I visited. All were amazing.
Durham food in general seems pretty A1

How easy is it to meet people at Duke? I'm fresh out of undergraduate, and met some of my closest friends in the dorms during my 1st year. Ill probably be living at a complex like pinnacle ridge or Garrett west, and was wondering if the off-campus living dynamic changes how close the students get at Duke?

How much would a good bbq meal for two cost?

The Pit (like 20 min away in dt Raleigh) is excellent bbq and has a family style option where you get to choose an app, two sides, and a style of bbq for like 20 per person. It's amazing. I'm sure the are plenty of other good options, but that one is top notch. Also, it's a ton of food, so be prepared.Brady199 wrote:How much would a good bbq meal for two cost?

That's where I love the Duke CoA. Fancy getting that in NYC or CallOhBoyOhBortles wrote:The Pit (like 20 min away in dt Raleigh) is excellent bbq and has a family style option where you get to choose an app, two sides, and a style of bbq for like 20 per person. There's a closer Pit location in Durham, itself.

The Raleigh location was actually the first one I tried, too, since I wanted an excuse to check out Raleigh. They're basically interchangeable, though.OhBoyOhBortles wrote:All the better. I had no idea.Serett wrote:There's a closer Pit location in Durham, itself.

It's a pretty small school. I don't think you'll have trouble meeting people or getting close to the people you meet.ithrowds wrote:How easy is it to meet people at Duke? You're thinking Shooters. Satisfaction is a pretty chill bar across the street from Alivia's.Serett wrote:
