Just got James Wilson for 75K. This has further worsened my Senioritis.

Received Levy on March 4th. Still pretty surprised about it. Looking forward to meeting some of you at ASW.

Re: University of Pennsylvania c/o 2018 Admits
If TLS is representative, it looks like Penn is gunning harder on mid range scholarships (JWs) over Levys versus last cycle.
I'm really curious why they invited a ton of Levys and haven't rendered decisions yet. Are these backups to current Levys? Will they drop to JW if no Levys open up? I'm also curious why they invited people for the JW then put them as alternates, but two days later sent out JWs to people who had never been invited.

+1 to confusion. Would also have thought that if they did alternates for JW, they'd do so for Levys as well. Or just communicate something. I'd rather be straightforwardly rejected from Levy now than sit around waiting until a non-named merit offer shows up and doubles as an implicit Levy ding. (Good thing none of these things list patience as a quality they're looking for...)nickhalden wrote:If TLS is representative, it looks like Penn is gunning harder on mid range scholarships (JWs) over Levys versus last cycle.

Yeah I am in the same boat, would likely go to Penn on S-R but no news yet, and since only 2 are awarded I do not even know if I have been skipped over.strugglebus wrote:+1 to confusion. so is it safe to say that the first batch of levy's are out and anyone who will get one subsequently is a current alternate?

Thanks man. Is it all one wave though? If so, I'd want to withdraw and hopefully free up space for someone else.Mack.Hambleton wrote:entirely speculation, if you're an alternate theyll email you so who knowsFred Norris wrote:so is it safe to say that the first batch of levy's are out and anyone who will get one subsequently is a current alternate?

Just got the financial aid info. No merit award included, but it says I will be notified of that later. Other folks get this?
Oh, and they think my parents are going to make it rain apparently.

I didn't get an email. I didn't do any FAFSA or whatever though, so that's probably why.

My letter said that I was awarded a financial aid grant of $68k, and a dean's fellow merit scholarship of $30k.

Gotcha. I did the need access and FAFSA, and it does specifically mention doing those in there.xylocarp wrote:I didn't get an email. I didn't do any FAFSA or whatever though, so that's probably why.

Penn reviewed my financial aid information and decided that, as a 30+ year old independent student who will be losing all of his income to go to law school, I will be able to contribute over $56,000 to my law school education next year and should only need to borrow $25,000 or so.
Are they high?

lol, different situation here, but same numbers. Maybe they just use that $56k for everyone?tk17 wrote:Penn reviewed my financial aid information and decided that, as a 30+ year old independent student who will be losing all of his income to go to law school, I will be able to contribute over $56,000 to my law school education next year and should only need to borrow $25,000 or so.
