Got the scholarship email. Don't wanna ask for a full ride and sound greedy, but I need a decent amount of money, any advice on how to respond??

What I did was mention that I had received offers from schools that were in much more affordable locations. I mentioned the cities, but not the schools specifically, and asked them to match the cost of attendance.Shelbinole wrote:Got the scholarship email. I don't see the issue with citing specific offers... can anyone offer any insight here?

Nah just tell 'm what you need to receive in order to make it worth your while. In other words:tonysoprano wrote:I don't see the issue with citing specific offers... can anyone offer any insight here?

I told them my offers, and instead of straight up asking for a better/competing offer I just told them that I was looking forward to hearing back from them about money and stuff.tonysoprano wrote:I don't see the issue with citing specific offers... can anyone offer any insight here?
Also just got the confirmation email today after sending my reply in last week, and it freaked me out a little because I (of course) jumped to conclusions and thought they were actually telling me something besides just 'we got your email.'

Re: Georgetown Law Class of 2018
i put a number in my email just because i wanted to set the baseline, especially since the initial email basically asked us what we want. i figured if i was vague or just said i want something "competitive" then i would really be letting them control the terms of the negotiation... and i'm sure they'll screw me regardless, but that's besides the point

Yes i got the email today! Thank you for your help!Gray wrote:Did you just get it today? I think TCR is to be honest and clear, not mentioning other offers specifically. "GULC is a top choice for me, but financial considerations will be a large factor in my final decision. I am fortunate to have already received substantial offers from competitive schools. Given the high cost of living in DC and [insert personal factors here] I will likely attend GULC if I am offered a scholarship for [XXX amount/XX% of tuition]."

Checking in...Got the letter yesterday after being held. VERY excited, but the prospects of $$ seem low since I was held for so long.

Re: Georgetown Law Class of 2018
My scholarship email said to respond "by Wednesday, February 11th." I'm hoping my Duke scholarship offer, which was mailed on the 6th, will be here tomorrow afternoon and am waiting until then to give my response. Anybody think this is a bad idea, or you think I'm fine sending in the letter on the 11th?

167 3.77 GPA accepted on the 26th. I would like to work in the DC metropolitan area and GULC is my #1 pick of schools. That being said, I am not willing to take out a quarter of a million dollars in debt to attend. Mylsn puts the chances of a scholarship offer at 33% and the average amount at $70,000. What I'd like to know is 1) What do you think my chances of receiving the scholarship email are? 2) If I do not receive said email, should I contact them myself?

I have the same story exactly. I figured that I might as well not try to play games with them--there's only one scholarship level I'd consider and they should know that as they deliberate.thatssoraven wrote:I told them my offers, and instead of straight up asking for a better/competing offer I just told them that I was looking forward to hearing back from them about money and stuff.tonysoprano wrote:I don't see the issue with citing specific offers... can anyone offer any insight here?
