IME, there are three main contingents (possibly four) looking at different areas first. For them one or more of the factors below may apply:
Village factors:
Affordability
Proximity
Basic apartments = sufficient
Uptown factors:
Money not quite as constricting on decision
Proximity
Nightlife
Single-Family Neighborhood factors (this could be counted as one or two groups; two would be the difference between the Central/East Dallas (including HP) neighborhoods and the 'burbs):
Preference for small (duplex-octoplex) complexes
Families
Older and done with apartment living
Students seeking to buy
Large dog
Living with parents to save
BVest has it pretty clearly laid out although if you want to pay uptown prices without the benefits of nightlife there are a few new places in the village area that might appeal to you - the Standard, Upper East Side in the Village and landamark on Lovers to name a few.
East dallas/lakewood/m streets/lower greenville get my vote for the best part of dallas but well-priced places go very fast so if you're not in town I don't know how successful you would be in getting a place
As an example- this is a very classic lower greenville apartment, well-priced and if the photos aren't lying I would assume it will be gone within a week or two max - http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/apa/4963768847.html
so uhhh who needs a roommate

Looking forward to the ASD!
24k probably, but i dont really know what Superior means. Possibly 27
My CAS report says it's equivalent to a 4.0; general consensus is that every school assumes an international GPA to be at the median for that school if it's a Superior rating. If I get a good offer then I am definitely in, have been in the city for a week so far and am loving it.

some of the richer portion of my senior class would rent out like the end 4 rooms of a hallway and we'd just have different drinking games in diff rooms. Sounds like it would be cramped and stuff, but it was pretty awesome.

For anyone interested, I saw some dirt cheap books on ebay.
I don't know if they'll be the right editions though. It's what we used for the class of 2017. PM me if you want a link.

Don't go looking for your books right now. Editions change and you don't know who your profs will be yet so you have no idea what books (much less editions) you'll need.

That's absolutely right, normally. But these books haven't been bid on at all, and are sitting at a dollar. >_>

How much would a 2BR run you in Uptown? I'd always assumed 90% of Dedman lived in the Village

My friend lives with her sister up in uptown. Really nice place literally on Mckinney Av. Pay 850 each.
Whiskey, Idk if you can pin a map or something, but I always hear people talk about "Lower Greenville" but don't know what they mean specifically
dibs on the ebay books though... even if they arent the correct edition lol. If I get one for like 10 bucks it saves me a bunch and is worth the risk imo

Technically, Lower Greenville is the 4-block stretch from Greenville to Skillman that is bounded on the north by Mockingbird and on the south by Ross (M streets are part of LGNA). East of that is Vickery Place and west of that (to Abrams) is Lakewood Heights, and then west of Abrams is Lakewood.
Speaking generally, however, Vickery Place is often lumped into what people mean by Lower Greenville. Meanwhile, Lakewood Heights is often lumped in with either LG or Lakewood, and thus it rarely gets its own recognition.

Hello all. Although I will not be able to attend ASD today (friday), I would be very interested to meet those of you who decide to remain in and around the SMU area after the event. I reside in Dallas currently, and would suggest to anyone who is unfamiliar with the area to try the fare at Digg's Tacos, which is exactly across the street from SMU: a very casual atmosphere, good food (and lots of it), unique music, and normal drinks.

I'll add you to the list (I'm assuming you're in). Welcome to the club.
Btw, if I've missed anyone in the OP, let me know. It'd be nice to know how much of the ~200 or so in our class are TLSers
