You guys haven't gotten your email addresses and admitted students site logins, right? As soon as you have those you'll be able to register. Got mine via email about a week after my JS2, if you're still within that timeframe.

Yeah, considering they're closed today for snow I'd look out for it Wednesday or Thursday this week. But you can probably go ahead and make travel plans anyway without officially registering -- someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I doubt they have a hard cap for registrants.

So what happens to JS1 interviews when the office closes? Are they rescheduled or does the team just do them from home?

HLS admissions said they would shoot to have student emails out by the end of the week.

This is something that will probably be best explored at ASW - but since its probably best to strike housing asap I figure it's worth it.

Is Gropius/Hastings as bad as the pictures on Harvard's website suggest?

I am pretty sure I've read close to everything on these board's and the upside to the dorms are clear. Price, access, 9 month lease, and being better integrated into the community. At the same time, I've been living in apartments for four years and the idea of going back to a dorm is depressing. I cook every day so no private kitchen is a downer. Overall I think the pros and cons are well balanced, so it's hard to make a decision either way.

What is our feel though for the buildings? I mean they look so bad online. Is that just the pics we have access to or...? Anyone have a feel for where the social community is centered?

Not answering your Qs but I too want to look at housing (HUH apartments) during ASW. Can this be done during the housing information table time on Sunday? I feel like seeing a place would be far more useful than going to a housing table...do I need to contact someone to set this up?

They must be doing them from home because they tweeted that they were still happening today.

The housing info table is literally a table with brochures. Maybe a person will be at it. If you go on one of the tours you'll be able to see the dorms (minus Hastings). The only way you'd be able to see one of the HUH apartments is if you know a current student who lives in one.

Not that I know of. They're kinda like real apartments, and I think all the units are currently occupied.

I had the same dilemma, I chose HUH and I'm happy with my decision, for the following reasons:
1) Yes, Gropius and Hastings are hella-ugly. If you're the type of person that is strongly affected by the aesthetics of your living space, it will probably suck.
2) Depending on your floor choice, you might be able to cook. If you don't cook/ hate sharing a kitchen/ live on a floor with sucky people sharing the kitchen, there are very few food options super-close to campus. There is a decent cafeteria in the law school, and a couple of food places close by, but almost everything is at either Harvard Square or Porter Square, both of which are about a 10-15 min walk away.
3) Yes, Gropius can give you a sense of social community. There are entire friend groups in my section who formed in Gropius. It's also easier to meet people from other sections. However, it is not the only way. There are 80 people in each section, and not all of them live in Gropius. IMO, you will not be SOL on the social side if you don't live in the dorms, but you will likely have to try a little harder at the start of the semester.
4) Do not underestimate the power of having a private/ semi-private bathroom... If you live in Hastings, you may have to walk up and down a couple flights of stairs every time you want to use the bathroom.

Despite choosing HUH largely for the kitchen (and like you, I used to cook every day), I didn't cook AT ALL in first semester. It takes me forever to cook and I can't get any studying done at home, so it was not worth my time/ energy to come home, make dinner and then head back to campus. YMMV.

Above all, you have tons of time to make a decision, and if you're choosing b/w the dorms and HUH, making a decision now has zero impact, since you can't choose anything yet anyway. It might be different if you were looking at off-campus apartments. Hope that helps! PM me if you have more questions or want more info.

Well it looks like the two ASWs are the exact two weekends across the next 3 months that I can't make the trip. Would it be useful for me to make my way down there for a random weekend in between? It's a 6-7 hour bus for me and I can stay with family in Boston, so costs wouldn't be high. Would I have the opportunity to just look at residences/apartments/areas and the campus and would that be worth a relatively inexpensive trip?

Is there anything resembling a tour that goes on in the spring? I know the website says they only do official tours in fall which is silly :(

You could probably get a tour of some sort. Just e-mail the office and they can at least find a student to meet with you. Just be sure to avoid finals (May) and spring break (March 13-20).

Also, if you know you want to come, you probably don't need a visit. If your concern is housing, it might be better to wait until May or June so you can visit apartments and stuff.

Hi everyone! Super excited to meet you all in the fall. Does anybody know what combo you use to login to the admitted students page? I tried my ID/pin and username/password for my email but neither worked.

Any guesses on when the 2/2-2/4 acceptance wave will get admission packets and emails?

Waiting to withdraw from other options for that haha. I know it says admitted on the status checker but still doesn't feel 100% real.

If you live in Gropius, you can ship stuff directly to the school and they'll put it in your room for when you get there.
