The dream is living in DC and public interest, so high cost of living low salary. That being said, has anyone made up their mind on going to GULC, even if they have to pay full COA? Can you give some insight into why you made that decision? I don't plan on it but I'd like some input from someone who is
I am not in this camp - GI Bill is funding most of my COA. However, as someone who is naturally curious and thinks 50k+ a year is ridiculous - I researched how someone could realistically pay sticker and still pursue their passion. If you are truly committed to public service check out LRAP - you can't beat having your loans paid for and forgiven after 10 years: http://www.law.georgetown.edu/admission ... -aid/lrap/

Also, you might want to look at GULCs "need-based grant assistance" (separate from merit based scholarships - i.e. you don't need a high LSAT or GPA to be considered) - you just need to be broke relative to other incoming students :) -- http://www.law.georgetown.edu/admission ... stance.cfm

Hope this helps and congrats on your acceptance!

You are definitely right to be cautious - although in my experience, the govt has almost always grandfathered current enrollees in education programs they cut. But like I said - you are right to be cautious - no guarantee it will be there in 2018 when you'd enroll.

LRAP programs existed (to a lesser extent) before PSLF, so I think you can be fairly confident that they would continue even if PSLF was changed or capped. Also, the language concerning income-based repayment options and the availability of PSLF is in the promissory note. If you sign a promissory note that includes PSLF as a benefit, you are entitled to that benefit regardless of any change to the law. So they would be forced to grandfather current borrowers in, and I don't expect any massive changes before August. Also, I scanned Obama's 2016 budget yesterday, and there is no explicit reference to capping PSLF (although there is mention of income-based student loan "reforms" that isn't explained further).

That being said, it's always better to be in less debt.

On that note, I hope they do scholly stuff soon!
I hope so too... kinda. Us splitters don't usually get a lot of schollylove, but I have daydreams about desperation for higher LSATs causing people to consider someone (like me) they would have laughed at (as far as merit aid goes) a few years back.

Looks like the Financial Aid page on the main GULC website has been updated for this year. See here: http://www.law.georgetown.edu/admission ... New-JD.cfm

However, doesn't look like you can get up the NetID yet. Nothing on the ASW in the right column yet, like it says on the main financial aid page. I know it previously said "late January", but that isn't even there anymore. Soon, I'd say?

Just bit the bullet and bought my plane tickets to the March Open House. Anybody know whether it's possible to arrange to stay with a current law student? My meager nonprofit salary does not leave much room for a hotel...

Yes, that was an option offered at our weekend, you should be able to express interest in it on the open house registration.

Is anyone going to the admitted students day tomorrow? Would the office of admissions office hours be a good place to ask about scholarship info?

Just got the scholarship email!!

Edit: was so excited I didn't even read the email. The email discusses submitting additional info about why georgetown and what level of scholarship would you need to attend GULC. Is this the appropriate time to discuss offers from other schools?

It's kind of a peculiar email. Like how it says to say where Georgetown fits into your decision and how much $$ would make a difference.

how are we supposed to respond to that scholarship email? it asks "what level of funding would make a difference in your decision," are we supposed to give them a $ range we want to be considered for? that's kind of a dumb question bc obviously i want as much as possible haha

Yeah, I was just puzzling over this too? Should you mention offers from other schools or wait for their initial?

this is kinda tricky! because i'm not sure this email is inviting us to negotiate in the sense of leveraging offers from other schools... i'm worried it's still too early to be that aggressive

Not the time to start negotiating I think... But yeah, I found this to be weird too. I mean, any amount will make a difference, but I can't say what will sway me until I have everything on the table from all schools I've been admitted to.
