Sent in negotiation email March 3rd, received bump March 30th. Although, my experience may be different, because students who hadn't received their aid package were given priority.
Originally $54,000, bumped to $67,500.

Re: Duke Law c/o 2018
I think the school funded rate is lower. If we're presenting the statistics the same way LST does (i.e., of the FT LT bar-required positions, what percent is school-funded), I think the school-funded rate would actually be 2.3%. It's only 5% if we are counting all school-funded jobs (non bar-required, part-time, short-term) as a proportion of total graduates. Am I right about that?

You are right. About 5% of total jobs are school funded, but if you were trying to subtract the school funded percentage from the FTLT JD Req jobs to get a better idea, you would use the 2.3% number. I think you're also correct in thinking this is how LST reports it.

Robust numbers. Nice nicePKP319 wrote:Class of 2014 Employment Data is up on Duke's website!
90% FT-LT JD required
5% School Funded
56.7% 101+ Attorneys
13.5% Federal Clerkships
70.2% BL+FC
About a 10% jump in BL+FC!

Re: Duke Law c/o 2018
I emailed them an appeal about a week ago and they replied on Friday that my file would be re-submitted to the scholarship committee. I'm hoping to hear back tomorrow or Wednesday, but who knows. Hopefully not too much longer...secadc11 wrote:Also interested in this.Kip wrote:For those who tried negotiating with Duke, how long did it take them to get back to you? So if other law schools have not offered need based aid, do you think it's worth applying to both need and merit in the case of Duke? The scholarship email recommends applying to both. Is there something unique about Duke's scholarship process?

Re: Duke Law c/o 2018
I think they claim they offer you a ~holistic~ package that takes into account both merit and need-based aid, but on the offer, they don't differentiate between the two. If you've already done FAFSA, NeedAccess isn't too much more work, and I don't think it can hurt to apply for both.hopeboaltberkeley wrote:So if other law schools have not offered need based aid, do you think it's worth applying to both need and merit in the case of Duke? Just got the email, and my financial aid appeal was (politely) declined. I was really excited about Duke, but I'm really not sure it's going to be financially feasible. Ugh.

I got that same award. I also had larger offers from other T14, but after calculating my COA, Duke was still one of the cheapest. (The difference in COL between Ithaca and Durham surprised the hell out of me.) That, plus their upward-trending job placement numbers really sealed the deal for me.sneezus wrote:got scholarship offer via snail mail, offered dean's scholarship worth 90k.

As to negotiations... I couldn't get them to budge. The person I spoke with indicated that numbers at 25k/yr and above were pretty firm. You might have better luck, though.

I've been waiting almost 2 weeks. They did say they would send my file back for review last Thursday though, so maybe that's a good sign?idissent wrote:Pretty quick. A week or so?Peck.173 wrote:Hey, how long did it take you to get a response on your financial aid appeal?

Maybe a slower turnaround is a good thing? Just speculation.Vermonster wrote:I've been waiting almost 2 weeks. Also, there is a pretty useful google doc on the duke FB group that has housing info and a prospective roommate list.
