Hey! Long time lurker, glad to be jumping in finally.

Michigan is the best school I've gotten into, and their propaganda has worked such wonders on me I'm actually catching myself hoping I won't get into other schools so I can just let myself jump all the way onto the Michigan bandwagon.

So, on to my question. I'm engaged, and will be married by the time I show up for orientation. Any other married/engaged/SO'd UMich admits out there?

UMich is definitely one of my top contenders...gonna be a hard choice!

Certainly a tough choice, especially considering that for us there are two people's opinions that need to be weighed. Do we pick the better school for me, or the school in the big city to ensure better job choice for her? The need to make those kinds of choices is the flip side of all of that lovely emotional and financial support. Not that I'd have it any other way, of course.

You're on point this morning. It's going to take a lot to justify moving my wife away from her job and her network.

Thanks! Luckily UMich is a great school. If only it wasn't, you know, in Michigan. Not that there isn't a lot to love about the state, but people in my fiance's field aren't exactly lining up to go there. We've been trying not to get too wrapped up in the decision until all of the admissions results come back, but man oh man is it hard not to be preoccupied by all of the potential decision scenarios.

We're practically married tho lol He works in Michigan so I was in the same boat with worrying about getting rejected lol We did long distance while I was in undergrad so it will super nice to live together in the same state

Engaged here. Both the lady and I are from Michigan, so we're excited to be coming home (although we'll certainly miss west coast winters).

Wow, so there may be a bunch of us! For some reason I had a vision of being completely isolated in my section, surrounded by KJDs who look at a wedding band like it's a plague marker... I'm sure they won't be that way, but it's nice to know that I won't be the only one with our lifestyle in the L1 class.

I'm actually more curious about the age range, although I think those two things are related. When I took the LSAT this summer it was with a lot of recent graduates and incoming seniors, but for some reason I have the impression that UMich appreciates "experience." For what it's worth, I'm in my late twenties.

There was an option on the application to be considered for just summer, both summer and fall, or just fall. I too am a summer starter, not totally decided yet but leaning toward michigan. Seems like I'd be on the younger side from the posts above, lol.

Excuse me if this has been asked already, I selected the either fall/summer option and was admitted into the summer start program but now would prefer a fall start. Does anyone know of any precedent of someone switching out of summer start?

Mid twenties in my case. Fall starter though, so I still have a full 6 months of corporate slavery before taking another run at the ivory tower. Honestly, I know law school will be hard, but I can't help but wonder if some of the people who whine about it know how much of a pain it is to work for a living.

I know that it's possible (though the admissions office may not explicitly tell you that & they say that there are no guarantees about switching) so email them asap with a good reason why you need to switch. They say that they divide people up between summer and fall in the way that creates the most diversity, so they may be a little resistant, but I'm guessing if it makes the difference between you attending and not attending, they would probably be willing to switch you.

In my app I specified I wanted summer, but they admitted me for fall and I had a nice conversation with the admissions office (who I need to get back with about this, whoops) about why I probably shouldn't do summer start when coming straight from undergrad. It didn't seem like a big deal for them to switch me from fall to summer if I had chosen to go that way so I don't see why it would be any different the other way around. I'd just contact them now because they told me they needed to know if I wanted to switch by the first couple weeks of February.
