Re: UVA Class of 2018
Checking in, as I've been fairly sure for some time now that UVA is where I'll be this fall. I'm looking forward to ASW and the chance to scope out some apartments in Charlottesville! The "extremely limited parking" note did have me a little concerned though. I hope I won't be stuck with nowhere to park my car after I check out of my hotel on Friday!

Checking in - thrilled to have been accepted!
Does anyone know average turnaround from admittance to scholarship decision?

Rumors that they have over extended themselves. Money may not be available until after the first deposit deadline passes.Mack.Hambleton wrote:wutWinston1984 wrote:Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but they might be out of $$$.secadc11 wrote:Checking in - thrilled to have been accepted!

Yea; I guess I was being optimistic.Winston1984 wrote:Right. Again, this could be wrong, but based on how many Dillards they have given out, who knows.Or until people with $$$ withdraw
So let me re-phrase -- *if* there is still money in the pot, what does the average turnaround seem to be from admittance to scholly decision?

Not sure anyone can really answer this, considering that circumstances are different now than they would be if you had been admitted in November.secadc11 wrote:Yea; I guess I was being optimistic.Winston1984 wrote:Right. I believe this is correct, for now. I wrote to them with a question about need-based aid and they wrote back saying, "At the present time, UVA Law School has exhausted our scholarship resources for 2015-16." But, as others say, once people don't deposit, there should be more money available.Winston1984 wrote:Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but they might be out of $$$.secadc11 wrote:Checking in - thrilled to have been accepted!

Obviously there is no real way to know this, but do you think if someone makes the first deposit they could still negotiate scholarship once some more money is freed up?

First... I feel there wasnt enough exuberance over Hootimestwo information provided above.Hootimestwo wrote:That Chipotle isn't just a run of the mill delicious Chipotle, that Chipotle is a staffed by the A-team, used by the CEO to show off to NBC news Chipotle. That being said... I just signed my lease for the Jeffersonian. I'm so pumped for a .2 mile commute to the law school and a .3 mile commute to Chipotle!!
Second... as I sit here working at 6:00am... I cant wait to quit my job and move to Charlottesville.

I really really want to go to the ASW, but just the return flight back to where I live is ridiculously expensive (more than the max travel reimbursment).
There's not another ASW is there? Or is it bad to visit outside of an ASW?

It's definitely not bad to visit outside of ASW. I really enjoyed my visit a few months ago. Did a tour, had the option of attending a class and student life panel, ate lunch with some current students, explored Charlottesville, and picked out an apartment. Got my travel stipend a few weeks ago, actually.Cradle6 wrote:I really really want to go to the ASW, but just the return flight back to where I live is ridiculously expensive (more than the max travel reimbursment).

You got a stipend outside of an ASW? Is that standard?hangree wrote:It's definitely not bad to visit outside of ASW. I really enjoyed my visit a few months ago. You'd lose all leverage, pretty much... but it doesn't hurt to try if you know you want to go there.Nothing but the Funk wrote:slurpy wrote:I believe this is correct, for now. Re: UVA Class of 2018
I would like go to ASW, but it's still kinda expensive for me to make the trip even with the subsidy (flight and hotel and whatnot). And with school and work stuff, UVA's open house dates are inconvenient for me.
how much would I miss by not going to UVA's open house? I already visited, I almost certainly know that I'm going to be attending, and I'm not too worried about missing one chance to meet potential classmates if I've got a whole three years to do so (plus xylo already promised to sit with me at lunch for the first week of school). Is it really worth it in my situation to make a huge effort to go?

Re: UVA Class of 2018
Like you, I almost certainly know that I'm attending UVA have previously visited in December and I will not be attending ASW due to the fact that I'm really busy at work and can't take time off then. While I'd like to go and it looks like the school has a lot of cool stuff planned for ASW, I don't think it's going to do anything to help me make up my mind about where I'm attending law school next year. ASW is more essential for someone who is on the fence between 2-3 or more schools and is trying to figure out which school is the best fit for them. If you've already visited the school and gotten a feel of what life there will be like and what sort of students will be your classmates and decided that it is the school for you, ASW won't do much for you. I think it would actually be more beneficial if you were able to visit your second or third options during ASW to make sure that you don't actually prefer those instead. But if you have no doubts that UVA is for you, no real point in doing that either.pulstar1 wrote:I would like go to ASW, but it's still kinda expensive for me to make the trip even with the subsidy (flight and hotel and whatnot).
