Re: Duke Law c/o 2018
just got my aid package today... grateful to have gotten anything at all, but i still feel underwhelmed.
they offered me 36k total. sad to say, but i guess this means i most likely won't be attending duke...
*did anyone receive any news from the negotiation front? how did that go, if you dont mind

Does anyone know anything about California biglaw placement from Duke? I'm weighing sticker at Boalt v. a full ride at USC v. 38k/year at Duke right now.

LST has ~6% of Duke grads going to California. USC has ~30% large firm score. If you definitely want to be in California, I think USC for free is a pretty good option.drballison wrote:Does anyone know anything about California biglaw placement from Duke? if you are deadset on practicing in CA, then i'd take USC fullride. because the only local competition in that huge legal market is from Berkeley and UCLA, not to mention USC probably has a better networking advantage compared to other T20s with regard to working in CA... but on the other hand i think graduating from Duke will allow you great degrees of freedom to work anywhere in the country. the 2013class statistic for Duke shows 6.7percent found jobs in CA (5th most popular location).drballison wrote:Does anyone know anything about California biglaw placement from Duke? in short, i think Boalt at sticker is not worth... and USC if you are deadset on CA, but Duke if you wanna have every other option too in terms of location

Y'all, I thought she was a professor who just didn't get a name tag and then she tricked me into talking to her and you know sometimes you just end up at your own admitted students reception asking a middle-aged woman to point out which one is her child.

Not a story, per se, but Dean Levi is the man. I got the chance to talk to him at the faculty reception. Of the three LS deans I've met so far, he was by far my favorite.NoLieAbility wrote:Anyone want to tell stories from the Open House?

Scholarship came in the mail. $$ is tempting--largest T14 yet. PM for amount/stats.
And re: debate earlier in the thread, I didn't interview but I don't think that hurt me given the amount.

I got my offer raised from $54K to $67.5K in response to a large offer from Georgetown. It never hurts to try.hodzdoh wrote:just got my aid package today... grateful to have gotten anything at all, but i still feel underwhelmed.

I second, third, and fourth this! Many of the admissions deans at schools have been really cool (not totally surprising), but Dean Levi is head and shoulders the most awesome Dean of the school I've encountered.DetroitRed wrote:Not a story, per se, but Dean Levi is the man. Re: Duke Law c/o 2018
Just got an email saying my appeal was denied. The only higher offer I had was from Cornell, which I think was not the strongest leverage. Plus my initial package from Duke was already quite generous - I just wanted to see if they could sweeten the deal. Still considering attending despite the denial.

Anyone who's tried negotiating scholarships with Duke, who did you send the email to? Dean Hoye? Or someone else

I sent mine to admissions, and they directed me to the general financial aid email. I would send it there.whodatninja wrote:Anyone who's tried negotiating scholarships with Duke, who did you send the email to? Dean Hoye? Or someone else

For those who tried negotiating with Duke, how long did it take them to get back to you? For those who had success, how much did they raise the amt?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
